You know, when I was a kid, it was the job of the police to make the public feel safe.
When did that turn around?
Sounds like a very bad shooting…
Every time some LEO does something stupid and the rest of them notice it and straighten up you have something like this happen hoping it’s the last time.
These things just make me sad. How many police actually get shot at that some deputy in Arkansas figures a kid out working on his car at night is about to unload on him?
I will reserve judgment until I have all the facts.
Riots to ensue and the media will blast this story 24/7 because an unarmed kid was shot!!
Never mind...he’s white. The media is secretly smiling.

“When did that turn around?”
When they lost the backing of their overly political superiors thereby becoming targets for the crazies who feel they can act with impunity.
Here is one I put in the questionable catagory.:
Police (shouting outside): MMMfff MMMf MMMfff!
Police banging on door: BAM BAM BAM!
Old man: “Huh? What the... Who’s there?! Get out of my house you punks! I’ve got a gun!”
Police kick in door
Old man: BANG BANG
Police: BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG!
When you keep dipping lower into the applicant pool, you get folks with poor judgment. LEO is no longer a desired occupation
Let more facts come out. First, the stop was at 3 am, for Pete’s sake. It’s dark. The police pull over the driver. The driver jumps out of the vehicle (I believe that’s a definite no-no), goes to the back of the truck and pulls out an object. Had this happened at 3 pm, I would agree with you. 3 am, I don’t believe the facts were quite that clear cut.
This one has got me totally pissed off. IF the story is true that is one cop who needs to go away for a long, long time. A young kid, working all night to repair his truck so he can go to work at his construction job the next day. Cops just need to realize normal, law abiding people don’t think they’re constantly in combat and think “oh, this cop might shoot me”. This kid thinks, “oh, my truck isn’t stopping, I need to fix that before it hits the cop car”. And now he’s dead because he doesn’t think like a cop. The fact that he bears a strong resemblance to my son doesn’t help, either.
When did that turn around?"
When the popo were issued bullet proof vests, 200 rounds of ammo, told that it was "Us vs Them", and given total immunity from prosecution.
Sorry, I just can't generate total support for Democrat thugs. They have brought themselves to moral penury, and being able to see it coming for 40 years is small comfort.
Reason is an anti cop libertarian website.
This story needs to be counter balanced with an objective source.
But thank God the cop was able to return home safely that night. < /sarc >
Seriously, what the hell is going on? Why?
All human life is precious. Nothing, no one but God can create life. No one but He can raise the dead. How did this killer ever become a policeman? To hold life and death in one's hands every working day requires a person of great probriety, something this cop sorely lacks.
They need to raise LEO salary about 40% IMO if its hard to get young people who have intelligence.
“told local ABC affiliate KATV news that the truck wouldn’t properly shift into park, so Brittain went to the back of the truck with a jug of antifreeze to prop behind a truck’s tire so that it wouldn’t roll backward “
utter bs or a very stupid person.
> When did that turn around? <
The police have a very difficult and dangerous job. And the streets are rougher than when I was a kid. I get all that.
But when I was a kid, cops were “peace officers”. And they all dressed like Officer Reed on “Adam-12”.
But now cops are “law enforcement officers”. No more “Officer Friendly” when interacting with the public. And they carry all sorts of tactical gear. Some of them even wear camo pants. Camo pants? I just don’t understand that at all.
So, yeah. Too many cops see themselves as soldiers in an un-pacified area. Maybe that’s entirely necessary. But maybe it’s not.
the whole change from peace officer to law enforcement officer
completely different mindset
It turned when aholes decided to physically attack, shoot and throw items at cops.
I wouldn’t touch the job today.
Maybe the officer did yell “FREEZE” and considered it resisting a lawful order when the kid went for a jug of anti-”FREEZE”.
OK, a touch of humor, but I will be curious what else comes out here. Can it be as bad of a shoot as it sounds?
