Air-conditioned prices up from last summer All large appliances up. Washing machines, driers, dishwashers, refrigerators etc. Microwave ovens stable or up
Food prices? What do you see? Forget chicken wings, buy drumsticks to substitute. Drumstick prices are not up very much.
Beef up 50% from last year. My favorite cuts at least. Though grass fed hamburger at Aldis is down 50 cents per pound. Watermelon prices same as last year.
What inflation or deflation do you see in anything? Some that might get you angry,
TVs are cheap. The signal is expensive. After the first year you have doubled its cost.
Air conditioner price is not important, since the bulk of the total cost of ownership over its lifetime comes from its electricity usage cost.
Used vehicles. For example a used 2019 Silverado will cost around the same amount a a new 2021.
So much for that saying, “drive a new car off the lot and it looses 10% of its value”.
“canned cat food in very short supplies “
Very surprised at how long the shortage has lasted.
Bought a microwave, a sewing machine and a washing machine at the beginning of the pandemic. Yes, bad timing but that’s my luck. The only one that works properly is the sewing machine. The sewing machine was the last one on the shelf.
One would think chickens still come with both wings and legs but who knows these days.
I’m actually spending less at the supermarket these days. I’m able to build my saving up even faster.
We live in an area where water is comparatively cheap. So instead of harsh chemicals like phosphate (which harms the water table and local fisheries), we pre-soak each wash load for about 40 minutes, adding powdered Oxy bleach to the white load, or borax or a capful of Lysol or Simple Green to cut grease if needed, and completely drain off the soak water before refilling and running a wash cycle. Works great.
Advice is greatly appreciated and I will relay.
I’m so tired of laundromat runs over what I think is trivial.

Pre-treating stains with spray OxyClean, a protein dissolver for bloodstains like Era, or a degreaser or rust remover as needed is always better than trying to cure a entire load because a few clothes have spots.
If you are using a laundromat, the pre-soaking I described earlier is nearly impossible to do unless they have a set-up for it, and it would probably cost more. Pre-soaking is generally a better option at home in one machine. Although there’s nothing stopping you from pre-soaking laundry in your bathtub, but it will be heavy to transport, and you have to launder it right away after soaking or there will be mildew and odors.
Our grandmothers used to boil all-cotton whites in a big tub in the yard, or a large pot on the stove. Hanging clothes to dry in the sun is a natural bleach; but many of today’s communities won’t allow clotheslines. And it also fades all your color or dark clothes. And neither option is going to be good for today’s blended fabrics with polyester additives.
The Chinese and the Japanese have never been cozy. I find it very odd that Honda is manufacturing in China.
Co-worker buying his son a GM(Chevy) pickup truck. Used model with 30K miles, similar engines/sizes/etc., bought a NEW one for about $10K LOWER price than the used one.
Our favorite storage canned meat? 13.5% higher this month than last month. We have seen scalping on Amazon and eBay for this brand and type of meat.
Fuel? 60 cents per gallon MORE locally than 30 miles away. The cheaper one is about $1.00 higher per gallon than September 2020.
Steaks at SAMS? Same pack of 4 filet’s was 30% higher than fall of 2020.
Tires for motorcycle? Almost unobtainium. Shop had to order them in from all over the country for 2 bikes(a 650 and a 950 Yamaha). Tires were about $150 more per pair than 2 years ago.
Now some good news.
Ammo prices and availability are getting slightly better.
Example: $0.90 to $1.10 per round is now running $0.75 to $0.90 per round and can be found(ammoseek and others).
Freeze-dried storage meat prices have come down slightly as the supply got better and I guess folks are running out of “Stimulus” $$$$. Works for me but if you’re just starting now, it’s the 4th quarter and the clock is running down.

Or you could just throw a hand full of TSP in.
As previously stated upthread, TSP in the washwater is very dangerous to our state’s Chesapeake Bay and its fisheries.

It is interesting. We have a Honda Ridgeline, the first model. Before we bought it, we talked to owners of Honda Vehicles with 100,000+ to 200,000+ miles on them. Some are still running.
My Wife’s Lexus is still going after 14+ years. We have neighbors with Acura’s in the same age bracket and still running.
I shop make, year, model when I buy used autos. My last purchase was a 2006 Corolla LE with 367K miles on it for 2550. Very good deal imo. Looked new and was 1-owner owned by a fly-in airplane mechanic. He lives on a grass runway in Lakeland and it was his wife’s car. Maintenance on it was superb with pro-active gasket change on the intake manifold (known manuf. issue). Zero issues to date. It’s a money-saver.
