Thanks for that.
Those 1960-70s pickup trucks have really risen in value in recent years. See them now on Mecum and Barrett-Jackson going for huge bucks.
I’ve got a couple of 1950 Chevy trucks sitting here and an S10 frame ready to mount a cab and bed on. All the classic Chevies, cars or trucks are very scarce. I’ve been procrastinating on the trucks but it’s probably not a bad thing as the value will just keep going up. I should have got them done when Trump was in office and the economy was roaring but I waited and then covid came and I’m still waiting.
Not sure if I’m going to retrofit the second truck to an S10 frame or not. It’s an original turquoise truck and those were rare. Also a five window. They make Mustang II front suspensions that will bolt right onto the original frame or I could keep it original except for a dual chamber master cylinder upgrade kit. Gotta have that. I know from a honest person that it was running when parked. It’s not an oil splasher. Has an oil pump.
I’ve got a 2 ton short frame 1950 with no title. We don’t have a well yet so I’m thinking about putting a big tank on it to get water from the spring down the hill from us. Right now we’re using a 220 gallon IBC tote and it goes pretty fast. In fact, I need to fill it today. I fill a 55 gallon drum at a neighbor’s place for our drinking/cooking water. He’s got a 300+ foot well and has better water than all the other people with 100+ foot wells with limey water. Two different aquifers. The two ton has 7 leafs plus a 5 leaf overload. I think it will probably hold 3-4 tons really. Got a 2 speed rearend.
The first truck I do will pay off the 8 acres we live on and the second will either pay off the adjoining 7 acres we’re also buying or pat for a well. If I get it nice enough, it might bring in enough of a price for both.
I’ve got a craigslist search saved as a bookmark. 1976 or older with clear title are the parameters in the St Louis area. It used to give me 3-4 pages of results and now gives me 3-4 vehicles.
I paid $1,500 each for the 1950 trucks and even though they’re rusty, I could sell them for $3-4,000 each right now. Weld the patch panels in and it’s $5-6000. Go all the way with them and it’s $30-50k total. Yea, I wanna pay off the land and get a well.
