JAKARTA , solotrust.com - The drug Ivermectin which has previously been researched and tested is now designated as a Covid-19 therapeutic drug. This was stated by SOE Minister Erick Tohir in a virtual press statement, Monday (21/6).
Ivermectin has received permission from the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) and has received approval from the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes). Ivermectin, an anti-parasitic drug can be used as a therapeutic drug for Covid-19. Currently, the drug is being produced with a capacity of 4 million per month.
"Today we also want to convey that the anti-parasitic drug Ivermectin has been released and has received a BPOM permit, we continue to communicate intensively with the ministry of health how it is in accordance with the recommendations of BPOM and also the ministry of health, this ivermectin drug must obtain a doctor's prescription for its daily use," " said Eric.
Ivermectin is claimed to be a drug for COVID-19 therapy that can reduce and prevent transmission. Traditionally, ivermectin is a drug for indications of worm infection or Strongyloidiasis and Onchocerciasis which is given in a single dose of 150-200 mcg/kg body weight with use once a year.
The price is quite affordable, namely Rp. 5,000-Rp. 7,000 thousand per tablet.
"I received news, I feel quite happy, that in therapy rather than healing, anticipating to take care of ourselves so that transmission can be lowered, Ivermectin is considered quite good in therapies. Because based on the medical journals where studies have been published, they have got the results and of course because of this we performed a stability test yesterday," he explained.
Erick emphasized that the Ivermectin drug is a COVID-19 therapeutic drug.
"We insist that this therapeutic drug is not a COVID-19 drug but part of one therapy," he said.
For mild Covid-19 therapy in five days, the use of Ivermectin is enough to take 2-3 pills per day to be taken on the first, third and fifth days. If therapy is being recommended taking the drug for five days in a row.
With the procurement of this drug, it is hoped that it can be part of the solution to suppress the surge in COVID-19 cases. However, the public must also continue to adhere to strict health protocols.
"Of course everything will not work if it doesn't work together with people who do not discipline themselves in health protocols, whether wearing masks, keeping distance, washing hands, we must do it together. The government cannot work alone, but also with how the Indonesian people practice self-discipline," he said.
Ivermectin will be produced by a subsidiary of a state-owned company, Indofarma, so that it can make it easier for people to obtain cheap drugs, especially in remote areas.

I asked a doctor friend in Jakarta for Ivermectin last November, but he insisted that it was ‘not effective’ and declined to write the prescription. Funny thing is, there are all forms of the drug (pills, pastes, injectable) for sale on the on-line shopping sites, but specified for animals. It is cheap, as little as Rp3000 (USD 0.25) per 5mg tablet.
