United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken arrived in Germany on Wednesday and made clear that maintaining good relations would Berlin would be high on Washington’s agenda.
“I think it’s fair to say that the United States has no better partner, no better friend in the world than Germany,” Blinken said.
The visit is his second to Europe in just seven days, having accompanied President Joe Biden to leaders’ meetings at the G7 and NATO summits.
The US has been quick to emphasize the idea of a fresh start to relations with Germany, with Biden recently saying they were now “stronger than ever.” German Chancellor Angela Merkel didn’t go quite so far, saying, “We are building on a long history of good German-American relations.”
Merkel pointed to multilateralism as the key to problem-solving, noting that it was important not only to “call out geopolitical challenges by name, but also to craft solutions to them together.” She was also quick to add, “No matter what controversy we are talking about, we must always keep our channels of communication open.” …

And so said Molotov before the German invasion.
Blinken is maintaining the “Orange Man gone, world is all better now” trope the U.S. media love so much. The Euros aren’t so sure, but paying off the Big Guy is bound to be cheaper than keeping their promises of spending 2% of their budgets on defense.
Good diplomacy.... Not!
Heil Merkel
We’ll strengthen those relations by letting them go back to paying almost nothing for their national defense. Count on it.
So much for our ‘special relationship’ with Great Britain.
And what about the fact the Israel has been our most loyal friend?
Idiots in the Swamp….
For the Biden administration, it seems like Iran or China would be higher.
Once all the Germans were warlike and mean
But that couldn’t happen again
We taught them a lesson in 1918
And they’ve hardly bothered us since then

I would say that Germany has no better friend than the U.S. but I would not say that the U.S. has no better friend than Germany. Germany and France have teamed up to be the new bullies of Europe and the present tyrannical state of the EU is the result.
US has ‘no better friend’ than Germany, says US top diplomat Antony Blinken, As He Slaps The UK, Japan, Australia, and Israel In the Face
Blinken’s statement actually is sort of true. The U.S., as a country, has no actual “friends.” It has allies: some loyal; some less so. Even our supposedly top-tier loyal allies like the UK, Canada and Israel will be disloyal when it suits them. We see that all the time. So, when you have no actual friends, it’s axiomatic that we have “no better friend” than Deutschland. It’s also axiomatic that we have “no better friend” than Botswana... or Uruguay... or Luxembourg.
Take note that the biggest instances of so-called disloyalty to the US out of the UK, Israel and Canada were (are) when their leadership was (is) on the left.
Germany, however, is consistently left wing. And note that the sucking up is on the part of the current left-wing leadership of the USA, not the other way around.
Not as long as Merkel and her ilk are in charge.
The same Germany that had tariffs on U.S. cars and got all huffy when President Trump put the same on them.
Moron. Britain and a few others might feel some indignation. This is what happens when an obscure junior bureaucrat former gofer gets his hands on the levers of exhilarating power.
Japan might contend for that position. Taiwan, maybe? We do have real friends abroad. And we should preserve those relationships.
Yep
Water is dry.
Heat is cold.
Losing is fun.
Germany is an ally of the US.
Poland? Hungary? Slovakia? Czechia? Lithuania? Denmark? Britain? All probably better friends. But flattery has always been part of diplomacy. You say nice things about your hosts, and if you need a “partner,” picking the biggest, richest guy around is one way to go.
