“At the very least, a newly-commissioned ensign should not be campaigning in the court of public opinion to have the decision of the Secretary of the Navy and the rest of his chain of command overturned.” Bruce you have a very good point. They should follow orders. Try taking on this one:
“An NFL player who does some part time recruiting duty is worth a lot more to the Navy than a random ensign.” So make him work 60+ hours per week during the off season. Put him on a ship for 6 months with a weight room. He may be ‘on duty’ 365 days per year but no one works that much.
Defensive lineman, no less - talk about a position that will beat you up! Interesting he started out in ENJJPT (basically an instructor pilot gig - one of my squadrons was at Sheppard AFB - I’m assuming he was a FAIP) and ended up in Warthogs. He would have to request the combat tour and training. That’s not a guy who’s doing his 4 years just looking to get out.
