White House press secretary Jen Psaki quickly threw President Biden’s full support behind the Supreme Court’s unanimous landmark ruling this week that the National Collegiate Athletic Association can no longer restrict colleges from providing education-related benefits to athletes -- but steered clear of a related college-sports issue.
“Our view is that, of course, NCAA student athletes work very hard, both on the athletic field and in the classroom,” Psaki told reporters during Monday’s press briefing, adding, “I’m a retired one myself” -- referring to her two years on the swim team at the College of William & Mary.
“How is it a win-win?” That one’s easy-good PR for the military.
“Why is a football player special?” They aren’t. I think Trump would allow it.
“At the very least, a newly-commissioned ensign should not be campaigning in the court of public opinion to have the decision of the Secretary of the Navy and the rest of his chain of command overturned.” Bruce you have a very good point. They should follow orders. Try taking on this one:
“An NFL player who does some part time recruiting duty is worth a lot more to the Navy than a random ensign.” So make him work 60+ hours per week during the off season. Put him on a ship for 6 months with a weight room. He may be ‘on duty’ 365 days per year but no one works that much.

Any time the subject of compensation for student athletes is brought up, it should also be mentioned how underpaid are research and teaching assistants. Especially those whose research leads to the creation of new useful technologies.

Two USNA alums who received (somewhat) lenient service obligations due to their high-profile athletic achievements in the pro-ranks.
Roger Staubach:
He attended the U.S. Naval Academy where he won the 1963 Heisman Trophy, and after graduation he served in the U.S. Navy, including a tour of duty in Vietnam. Staubach joined Dallas in 1969
David Robinson:
the Spurs had to wait two years because he had to fulfill his active-duty obligation with the Navy.
Defensive lineman, no less - talk about a position that will beat you up! Interesting he started out in ENJJPT (basically an instructor pilot gig - one of my squadrons was at Sheppard AFB - I’m assuming he was a FAIP) and ended up in Warthogs. He would have to request the combat tour and training. That’s not a guy who’s doing his 4 years just looking to get out.

Might get rid of a few Kaepernicks and other ne'er-do-wells and clean up the league.
Hi.
Actually, he was a UPT student at ENJJPT, then upon graduation he received the A-10. It was said he got the A-10 because he could fit in it.
Cheers,

Please re-send to the guy you meant to send your reply.
Thanks.
Roger that - That career track works as well! Sometimes you have to take the breadcrumbs you’re given. Thanks for your service - FAIP is impressive. My dad’s last airframe was the F4-D out of Da Nang.
Thank you, sir, and I salute your father—Vietnam Vets that flew the F-4 were manly men, for sure.
