SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The number of people stopped from buying guns through the U.S. background check system hit an all-time high of more than 300,000 last year amid a surge of firearm sales, according to new records obtained by the group Everytown for Gun Safety.
The FBI numbers provided to The Associated Press show the background checks blocked nearly twice as many gun sales in 2020 as in the year before. About 42% of those denials were because the would-be buyers had felony convictions on their records.

I have noticed an increase in denials at the store I work at, the VSP doesn’t tell us why they were denied.
I remember when Obama-Holder forced illegal gun sales to Mexican narcoterrorists who ran guns and failed background checks.
In my state, (WA), upon a background check denial the State Patrol are notified.
Isn’t denying a gun sale for a felony conviction racist? I mean, it’s what progressives say about denying convicted felons a vote.
The VSP does our background check system.
Sometimes they are in the store before I know the customer has been denied.
divorcee's, third dui (I think), ... convicted assault "criminals" .. (I put that in quotes because a lot of domestic violence is drunken or you just pissed me off this one time ) ... stuff like that
Criminals that know they're criminals never try.
THESE kinds of reports are designed to raise unsuspecting hackles and get the thought processes going to align someone with a numb electorate and not an intelligent decision.
IMO
Let’s see……
BATFE regulates gun sales, etc
We fill out BATFE forms to make purchases.
BATFE provides the various licenses for dealers and collectors.
BATFE provides tax stamps for certain weapons.
BATFE is supposed to investigate gun crimes.
Why does the FBI do the NICS check? Why are they involved in any of it? If they are why do we need two agencies?
Lies, damn lies, and statistics.
Usually most of those rejections are errors of some kind.
The real questions are, how many of those people were subsequently approved, and how many people were prosecuted?
VSP facilitates the check. Everything goes to NCIC for the NICS check.
I don’t think you’re wrong.
A buddy was on an ATF task force. Responsible for investigating buyers who had “delayed hits”, bought the gun legally, found out later they were prohibited.
Phone call was made and they were asked to turn the gun in. Usual response was, “ATF going to reimburse me? No. Bye”. Nothing after that.
All gun control laws have Racist roots.
Subsequently approved for an error is not always easy or cheap. Burden of proof is on the one denied. A friend of mine went through this. He had to hire an attorney. Total cost was around $2000 and over a year to correct the error..
If kicked out of the automated system for any reason, it goes on delay and has to be hand sorted by VSP.
It’s all about the Bejamins. And the ever expanding buracracy.
And they, unlike the Feds, probably do their jobs.
How about prosecution of these folks, including Hunter Biden?
They do, we have them in the store on a weekly basis picking people up.
Many of our people have been called to court to testify.
Been lucky not to have that so far.
