A two door work truck that is free of all the extraneous electronic bells and whistles might succeed.
The vehicle will be pared down to a “truck” that can earn money. A tool that costs more money than it can earn is scorned
It was learned here on Free Republic that among the senior citizens, electric golf carts are being replaced with gasoline carts for scooting around the senior community and a short trip to McDonalds and Walmart. That fact is reverse evolution
If I were in the market for a new truck, I’d consider buying one. I rarely travel more than 100 miles on any given day, and 10 miles or less most days. And, there is my wife’s little old lady Expedition gathering dust in the garage for use on longer trips.
• How long does it take to fill up the “tank”?
• How far does it go on a full “tank”?
These are important questions for working vehicles.
Not this guy. I’ll keep my gas Tacoma.
P.S. Do not show this picture to Greta Thunberg. She’s angry enough as it is.
Take a week off to take the camper and family to Appalachia. Spend entire week doing 6 hour charge cycles every 80 miles. A Bugatti is probably going to serve more practical purposes than this half-baked product. However the need to consume will without a doubt somehow make this successful.
Or try to go wide-open-throttle for more than 5 minutes, or tow something over 50 miles... or get stuck somewhere. Or try to charge during rolling blackouts - or any blackouts.
Or try to dispose of the batteries.
Not a real truck, not very useful and not enviro-friendly.
Its a cold winter day in Texas. You go to plug in your truck, but the windmill froze. Now whatcha gonna do?
Teslas truck looks good to me and I am NO supporter of electric vehicles in general.
My local golf course replaced all the electric golf carts with gas carts.
Will it go 500 miles while driving at 75mph while pulling a boat, with AC blasting in the summer, or pulling a couple of sleds on a trailer, with the heat blasting, and without requiring hours to recharge along the way?
So the answer is “no”. Thanks.
Looks are one thing.
Utilitarian value is another..................
Exactly. It’s not just a tiny increase in demand on the power grid. Each of these chargers uses massive amounts of power, like running an electric dryer or stove, Which is actually on the lower end of some of today’s chargers, for hours on end while these cars charge. In reality, these won’t be sporadic uses, but huge demands every night around 6 o’clock or so when everyone gets home and plugged in their cars. I seriously have my doubts the grid can handle that load without interruption.
Range, Charging, and Battery Life With the smaller of the two battery packs, Ford claims a driving range of 230 miles per charge; upgrading to the larger pack boosts driving range to 300 miles. Buyers will be able to charge their F-150 Lightnings at home via 110- and 220-volt outlets but the truck is also capable of juicing at public DC fast-charging stations, and Ford says it can charge from 15 percent to 80 percent of battery capacity in 44 minutes. Ford also engineered the F-150 Lightning to serve as a backup generator and says a fully-charged truck can supply up to three days of electricity for the average household in the event of a power outage.

Nothing in the article say how many miles you get when towing a 10,000 pound equipment trailer, which is typical for the workman. I’m very skeptical of the torque issue when compared to a diesel truck. No one says what the cost is for a replacement battery package. No one says what the energy costs are that are related to charging the batteries, the cost of the special charging equipment and how long you have to wait for a charge up when you are in the middle of a work day.
Good luck charging that thing in Texas when it is really cold and the wind farms are frozen up, or the wind isn’t blowing on a really hot day in summer. ERCOT already can’t meet the demand and they continue to push the BS that we are better off with the propellers instead of the actual power plants.
I’m not buying one of these pieces of crap. Overpriced, hippie ride. Another loser.
