Gov. Kristi Noem Blasts Singer’s Call To Abandon U.S. Flag
South Dakota Republican Gov. Kristi Noem led a slew of critics blasting singer Macy Gray for urging the U.S. to get rid of the current flag, claiming the design is “tattered, dated, divisive and incorrect.”
“A new flag?! No thanks. Old Glory still waves as a symbol of liberty and justice for all,” Noem wrote on Twitter.
She later wrote to Gray: “[N]o, thank you. I like this flag.”
Others joined in. Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) tweeted: “If you don’t like the American flag, feel free to leave.”
And Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) tweeted: “There are 195 countries in the world. 194 of them don’t have the American flag. If @macygray or anyone else hates the American flag so badly, they should pick a flag they like & go live in the country that flies it!”

After refusing to keep men off girl’s athletic teams, she tries to distract by making a big splash over nothing, as if it is uncommon wisdom.
"Dam! Undercover Brother looks like Macy Grey with pork chop sideburns!"
Macy, don’t let the door hit you on the way out.
That’s c what she sung! I couldn’t remember. Bought her CD for that song. I liked lots of her songs on that CD. Last Gray CD I will buy.
Never heard of her.
One-Hit-Wonder...back in the early 2000s she had a song called “I Try” which charted in the hip-hop genre.
“I Try” did well across all the charts that year. It was a laid back R&B song with a cool retro vibe and got lots of play on the pop and adult contemporary stations. The album itself went multi-platinum, won a Grammy for female vocal (back when it still mattered), and was nominated for album of the year. It was one of the few albums I bought that year. But, she kind of fizzled after that, and of course this woke stuff with the flag is pretty uncool.
I actually liked the song, but she did indeed “fizzle”. (That is the definition of a “One-Hit_Wonder, LOL).
Her fizzling could be the reason she came up with this uncool woke stuff.
The struggle to stay relevant is a powerful motive.
Yep, she was a one hit wonder but does deserve some credit IMO for having not just a hit song but a solid album that has held up well. In fact, this flag business made me throw it in the CD player and listen to it again. It’s definitely a good one. There’s some wokeness implied in a couple of the songs but she’s really letting it hang out now. Would not surprise me if the relevance factor were in play as you mentioned.
That's a perfect response to this nonsense.
I almost want to get on Twitter again just so I can post replies like that to these disgusting people. We need to start pushing back on these people. They have had their own echo chambers for too long now.
I agree with you about the quality of her album. But that doesn’t give her license to be a jerk.
Without a Doubt, Cher and Streisand had more hits that spanned decades, and yet their political pronouncements are just as offensive to me.
I wish they would all just shut up and sing!
Agreed on the no license to be a jerk. My point is that she’s more than an inconsequential blip on the hip hop charts for those who may be wondering why a governor would be responding to her. As for musicians and their politics, more Dave Gilmore and less Roger Waters please!
I am waiting for the alleged pResident to do a tribute to BLM, citing the tragic death of Pink Floyd at the hands of law Enforcement.. :-)
Thanks
Heh heh, I can practically hear him saying it...
