What counts is immune escape. We’re now facing a situation where higly infectious variant are circulating and the immune response of vaccinated people to these variants is suboptimal (this is why exposure to them turns vaccinated people into asymptomatic carriers). This is driving immune escape, especially if vaccination occurs in the heat of a pandemic.
Discussions on comparing efficacy and reduction of transmission of current vaccines should stop as they are irrelevant. These vaccines are great but just fully contra-indicated in a pandemic! This pandemic can only be stopped by vaccines enabling sterilizing immunity.
The more we vaccinate using current vaccines, the more we’ll turn this beast into a monster.
It requires only very few additional mutations ( maybe one single?) for one or another of these highly infectious variants to become resistant to the very best Abs on earth, i.e. those induced by the vaccines. Resistance to those enables RBD to also ignore naturally induced Abs.What will remain from the vaccination is long-lived suppression of natural sIgM (please read my previous contribution and slides).For God’s sake, does no one realize the kind of diaster we’re up to?

This is one bit of science the anti-vax folk get close to right.
There are trillions upon trillions of Covid viruses in the world right now. If even one of them has evolved immunity to the vaccine, that strain would soon sweep across the world.
The good news is this doesn’t seem to be the case with any of the current variants, they all seem just as much affected by the vaccines.
It is that viruses have a hard time avoiding vaccines. It is much harder for them to develop that than it is for bacteria to develop anti-biotic resistance.
The other good news is that now that we have Covid figured out we could get a new vaccine out pretty quickly. Worst case is we might need an annual Covid shot along with our flu shot.
The virus wants to live. When it finds more resistance (either thru vaccinated individuals or those who’ve already had the virus) it mutates into variants because it is desperate to survive.
