A man who was released from jail earlier this month was arrested in connection with an "unprovoked" stabbing of a 94-year-old Asian woman in San Francisco, authorities said Wednesday.

Daniel Cauich, 35, faces multiple charges, including attempted homicide, elder abuse, committing a felony while on bail or release and probation violation. Investigators said they were still trying to determine if the incident was a hate crime.

Officers responded to a report of a stabbing about 10:15 a.m. PT in the 800 block of Post Street, according to San Francisco Police.

The victim, identified by NBC Bay Area as Anh Taylor, suffered multiple stab wounds and was taken to the hospital, police said. It was unclear how severe her injuries were, but authorities said she is expected to survive.

Police said they used a photo to identify Cauich as the suspect and took him into custody shortly after the stabbing. A knife was recovered near where the incident took place, San Francisco police said.

Efforts to reach Cauich were unsuccessful Wednesday. The San Francisco Public Defender's Office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Cauich has run into trouble with law enforcement multiple times, including five arrests last year on burglary charges and one arrest in 2016 on a homicide charge, according to NBC Bay Area.

He was released from jail by a judge earlier this month after he was arrested on May 18, according to court records, the San Francisco Chronicle reported. Prosecutors requested that Cauich remain in custody while awaiting trial on burglary charges, but a judge denied the motion, and he was released on June 7, court records showed.

“still trying to determine if the incident was a hate crime.”

Sheesh. Open season on Asians.

When such attacks occur, news organizations should routinely report — prominently and repeatedly — the names of judges and lawyers involved with such releases.

Heartbreaking to know that a Lady with such a sweet and gentle smile was treated that way.
Physically, she has survived. Who knows if her inner spirit will also survive, and in what condition?

The suspect is criminally insane, and should never have been loosed onto the streets.

The latest example of the pervasive San Francisco “If It Feels Good” culture. You can do anything in the city and get away with it. Alinsky Land.

The judge should be locked in a cell with the perp and a knife lying on the floor between them.

In cases such as this, the judge should be stripped of his/her robes and indicted as an accessory to whatever the perp’s crime was.

Best idea for making it stop that I’ve heard.

How many judges let psychos go if they think they might have to personally deal with them?

BTW, for any wondering about junglitis, it is not a racial disease. It is my way of identifying a society which no longer has a taboo structure to guide its civilization.

So many judges need helicopter rides.

The old way this was dealt with in SF was that Don Carlo would send a few of the boys over and the perp would not be seen again. That allegedly happened once in North Beach where a person of a certain persuasion robbed an Italian restaurant and roughed up the grandmother. I only know that because we ate dinner at that restaurant a few days later (I was a young kid) and that was what everyone was whispering. Back then the cops would shrug their shoulders and go back to their normal policing. Big mistake to rob businesses in certain parts of the City, although the deciding factor was what happened to the grandmother. Worked for the police because it sent a message that kept crime down.

When these things happen the judge should have to serve the remainder of the perp’s original sentence in a work-release fashion.

And it that time still gets added to the perp’s time as well.

“still trying to determine if the incident was a hate crime.”

Maybe it can be plea bargained down to a ‘sort of dislike’ crime.

These Judges and lawyers need to be held legally responsible for knowingly releasing dangerous individuals back into the street that commit violent attacks, and murder innocent people. Judges, D.A.’s, and Attorney Generals have more blood on their hands in this country than any police department ever could.

How about a law where the Judge is responsible for the actions of criminals when he lets them go early or does not detain them when they are a serious threat.

The last name Cauich is quite frequent in the state of Yucatán (Mexico).

Exactly right. Probably hundreds of times more blood.
