I just got a text message that said 'please text me' .It was from the same area code as my phone with the first 3 numbers the same as mine as well, a tactic often used by scammers. I sent nothing back, but only because I don't know the automatic feedback for a non existent number.
Phone text scams are the latest new frontier for criminals. Do not fall for any text that provides a link for you to click on. They are all scams.
I get a lot of scams about stimulus checks. For a while it was texts claiming to be Amazon delivering something. No matter what the text says it is an attempt to get your personal information.
Do not ever click on any link.
I’ve long suspected these spammers have more information than just your number. I use to get annoying calls from the same number all the time and my blocking attempts always failed. I changed that number to a silent ring tone and at least that worked.
This is a huge missed opportunity for Republicans. The Democrats and globalist Repubs are hell-bent on demoralizing and abusing the American people.
This is a populist issue that crosses ideological boundaries. We, the American people are being overwhelmingly abused by scammers, hackers, and identity thieves, and what has our government done about it??? NOTHING. It seems like they actively encourage it. Probably because anti-identity thief corporations are lobbying / bribing them to NOT fix the problem. It’s all about the money to these sick satan worshipping globalists. Money is their god.
Point being, a populist like Trump needs to grab this issue, run with it, demand / create a national task force to tackle these scammer / hacking / identity thief problems that Americans are facing. Send in the special forces to track down and take out foreign hackers? This stuff will end really quick when navy seals start showing up. Like when Jefferson dealt with barbary pirates.
This issue resonates with 90% of Americans, doesn’t matter what their politics are. Great way to build support through populism and improve the lives of Americans.
Why is no one addressing this issue? Rand where are you? Trump, why are you not take on this issue? DeSantis take note!
Never send “STOP” to a text either. It shows you are responding and you will get more than ever.
How old are you? I’m guessing pretty old
There was no link. I figure it was a temporary number of some kind being used to collect valid numbers to scam.
Ha! You’re right. Your post is a good warning about what’s out there.
And I’ll bet that 99% of Freepers are aware of at least some of these scams. But unfortunately we are but a small slice of the total population.
Do you want my birth day and SSN number too?
That’s age-ist.
You ageist!
They want you to text them, but don’t say why? Screw ‘em. They’re crooks.
Correct. I immediately delete any text that looks like it's a phishing expedition.
The world is getting more rotten by the day.
It's a sneaky way of getting people to Free Republic. They will Google 'please text me' and end up reading this thread
Scammers (I assume) are also leaving voicemail messages requesting that you call them back, but they don’t identify themselves. Those messages sound as if the first few words have been cut off, and no subject is mentioned. Several times a week is typical.
Yep. One of these days they are going to launch a Communist Revolution or steal an election even.
I had to call him up and let him know.
Call a few of your contacts and ask them to call you, as a test. Good reason to say hello to folks with whom you have not talked in a while, too.
I use to work at a place that had a phone in the lunch room. I'd call back these scammers and give them the number of the local District Attorney rather than mine when they asked for a call back number.
I don't! None of my friends - who know how very much I prize explicit, detailed descriptions - would ever write only "Text me!"
By the same token, I wouldn't be friends with anyone who would think that "Text me!" is a sufficient message.
Regards,
They did say please. I had to restrain myself from texting FOAD.
