I can change a few carpets for $180,000.
even if that home was in perfect condition it wouldn’t sell for more than $200,000 here in central Texas
Did the two cats left behind actually die? If they did, throw that witch off a cliff into a remote ravine. I am crying to think of the slow horrible death those poor cats may have had.
By the way, gone as in removed by force. The house no longer stands. It was on a property adjacent to the farm and I never wanted to see it again and got tired of people wanting rent it so I burned it to the ground, dug a hole and shoved what remained in and covered it up. Gone.
There are two other properties I’ve tried to by and if I ever get my hands on them the houses on them will meet the same fate with relish just as soon as I cut the power off and douse the yard lights.
They should have had the house gutted to the studs and foundation before trying to list it for sale. They probably would have been able to get more for it. It will need to be done by whoever buys it.
I offered once to let the new youth minister live in an empty house I had. One of the elders told me not only no but hell no. Too many bad experiences with good church going people let alone hippies.
Know what the value of free stuff is to most people who receive it is? Less than nothing. Remember that.
Now that is the positive way to look at it. This is nothing here, for awhile I worked for a contractor who cleaned up rentals after suicides and murders. Big bucks in that... Few will do it.
Where in Central Texas? Old tract houses are selling for well over $300K anywhere within 75 miles of Austin.
Sounds like most of the friends I had stay with me over the years. If it is not their own they don’t care.
Yes. Five years ago I put my family home on the market when my wife and I retired to the Hill Country. We use a very reputable real estate company to prescreen and qualify our tenants. I upgraded my homeowners insurance to cover any and all damages renters may cause. Even a loss of use clause that will pay me if my home is off the market for any length of time while damages are being repaired.
The dead pet is a good find. Can possibly use that to ask the cops to check into animal cruelty.
Back in the 1990s my wife and I had several rent houses. We would buy a house, remodel it ourselves, rent it out, and buy another. We had several tenants from hell in one year, one who trashed our house just as bad or worse than the one in the article. That was it for us. We sold them all.
“..And that’s just the normal stuff... “
No different from being a long time home owner, except it’s not you living there at the time.
Homes are pretty complex devices.
Owner is an a—wipe. Probably a liberal.
Thank you for the info. Letting 1/2 a million dollars sit for 10 years?? Ill add , Owner had more money than brains.
“””Owners had not checked into the property for 10 years (lived out of state) , tenant moved out and somone else moved in and stopped paying rent years prior.
Property owner is an idiot.”””
yes the property owner’s apparent negligence to manage the property led to having a tenant from hell. And the property manager appears to be an equal idiot.
All things considered there is not that much damage to the house.
This house appears to be ready to put on the market within 60 days—assuming a crew of 4 guys can be found who will work in Colorado instead of smoking weed all day long.
Dealing with shrieking tenants at 2 in the morning, not so much.
I had 4 rental units for 20 years. No big problems, made a lot of money and sold it for a big profit. I never had to evict anyone. Had one overstay about 3 weeks.
I had it built (modular) so it was new when I started. It closed 2 weeks after the lockdowns started last year. The timing worked out perfectly but the new guy hasn’t had any problems either. It’s in a very small town.
It’s all about how and who you pick as tenants.
It’s all about how and who you pick as tenants.
Many states have a little known law that if you live in the duplex or triplex, you can discriminate as much as you want. makes sense if you think about it.
