NEWARK, New Jersey (WABC) -- The city of Newark is paying tribute to George Floyd with a new statue in front of City Hall.
Mayor Ras Baraka, actor and filmmaker Leon Pickney and artist Stanley Watts unveiled the 700-pound bronze statue on Wednesday afternoon.

Amiri Baraka had a place at Springfield Avenue and MLK (formerly High Street), not far from where I went to college at New Jersey Institute of Technology. Right across from NJIT is Robeson Hall of the Rutgers Newark campus, with a bust of Paul Robeson, an opera singer who spent some time in the Soviet Union during Joe Stalin’s reign of terror.
