Yellowstone wolf, alone and injured, shows true grit against coyotes

A gray wolf in Yellowstone National Park was hungry and alone—and worse, it was nursing an injured front leg, making it difficult to hunt for food.
Fortunately, it tracked down a bison carcass. Unfortunately, a pack of coyotes stood in its way.
“Usually, a wolf can easily dispatch a coyote with a bite, but a lone injured wolf against a pack of coyotes, the odds were now in the coyotes’ favor. This wolf weighed his odds and took the chance to eat.”
“After watching him feed safely and then just walking away un-harassed, we knew it bought itself a few more days to survive in Yellowstone. Being alone is bad, alone and injured is even worse, but alone, injured and pack of coyotes nipping at your butt is about as bad as it gets for a wolf.”

We've always had a few coyotes around, but last fall the population exploded.
Had a pack of 12-15 right behind my house.
They would split up at night to hunt and call, back and forth, howling like wolves.
Pretty spooky.
Shot 2 from the back porch.
40lb young male and a 50lb female.
The pack disappeared after that.

Life as a predator is not easy in today's world so I was rooting for them all.
I am a big fan of crows too. I like them even though once while dining on an outdoor patio restaurant I had one crow stare me down maliciously for god-knows-what provocation and whom later shit on my sandwich when I wasn't paying attention. In the spruce spreading over the patio the crow then looked at me triumphantly while it bobbed up and down a little.
Crows, like canids, are very intelligent and have a real sense of self-awareness and the existence of others.

A friend that was into crow hunting was always amazed at how smart they were.
He claimed they knew if he was just looking around empty handed or was carrying a shotgun!

My grandfather rescued a young crow with a broken wing and kept it a pet. It even learned to speak a few words.
