Microsoft’s upcoming Windows 11 operating system has leaked online today. After screenshots were first published at Chinese site Baidu, the entire Windows 11 OS has appeared online, complete with a new user interface, Start menu, and lots more.
The new Windows 11 user interface and Start menu look very similar to what was originally found in Windows 10X. Microsoft had been simplifying Windows for dual-screen devices, before canceling this project in favor of Windows 11. Visually, the biggest changes you’ll notice can be found along the taskbar. Microsoft has centered the app icons here, cleaned up the tray area, and included a new Start button and menu.
This updated Start menu is a simplified version of what currently exists in Windows 10, without Live Tiles. It includes pinned apps, recent files, and the ability to quickly shut down or restart Windows 11 devices. It’s really a lot more simplified than what exists in Windows 10 today.
If you don’t want the app icons and Start menu centered, there’s an option to move them all back to the left-hand side. Coupled with the dark mode that’s also available, and Windows 11 starts to look like a more refined version of Windows 10 than something dramatically new.

On Linux, you should have a ‘notes’ planner in you widgets..
Mint stopped supporting KDE a couple of years ago :(
I had to switch to Kubuntu (after trying several others out.... I finally settled with Kubuntu).
Cinnamon/Mate just don’t cut it for me :P
BTW, it IS possible to install KDE on Mint, but it is a real PITA.
Yup. I miss Mint KDE.. started using it at 8 (switched from Mate).
It’s ok, I need to start getting away from the simpler DEs anyway.
Lol.. I remember when a spent a day or 2 reassigning all of the windows sounds to sound like AI (can’t remember if it was XP or 7). Totally freaked out friends that would come over. :D
(Always a female voice (all system sounds replaced)).
"Anyone ever experience the wonder that was windows millennium?"
Is BCD even still used?
I’m staying with my trusty 2009 Win-7 Pro x64, on both HP machines too. Screw everything MS after that.
The ChiComm Connection alone wouldn’t allow me to touch that OS crap, not even at gunpoint.
Has anyone figured out how to completely prevent W10 from phoning home?
Yes, same here... I would have to quit computing before I trusted it. Great that there are options. I have no clue why so many folks would...
Thank you! :)
Only if you can show that you've been injected with Uncle Bill's magic vaccine.
There was a time when I didn’t mind using Windows. But that day is long gone. I still have to use it but only with gritted teeth.
IMHO, the biggest problem is that the devs seldom fix anything now - they merely “paper” over it with new features and wallpaper.
Microsoft products are like the homeless guy you run into who hasn’t bathed in years, or washed his clothes in decades. But when you volunteer to pay for a motel room where he can clean up while you wash his clothes, he just combs his greasy hair and slathers on a handful of cologne and calls it good.
Yes we have the notes, but what we are looking for is something that will auto-alert on or before a certain appointment day three weeks from now. an “alarm calendar” lol
Looking for something else to test now...
I don’t really like most KDE apps.
KDE Neon is KDE + Plasma but it’s completely loaded with KDE apps which is why I use Kubuntu. The basic apps are KDE but they leave most of it up to you.
Plasma is da bomb. I could go way fancy with it but I keep it fairly basic. I don’t have wobbly windows turned on. It’s cool to play with for a few seconds but has no real use. I do use the Cube for virtual desktops. I also changed the keyboard shortcut to Alt+Ctrl and left/right arrow keys. I’m nt big on Alt+Tab these days because I don’t want to go through a stack of several apps. I’ve got six virtual desktops instead and might have 2-3 apps open on a couple of them that I will Alt+Tab through.
I’ve had a few different Ubuntu based distros on this laptop but Kubuntu is by far the fastest. Plasma was built to be lightweight and with mobile devices in mind. Plasma-mobile is a cell phone OS. I run dual boot with Win 7 Pro on the other side and my PC start up time is less than 30 seconds and shut down time is less than 5 seconds. This is a 7-8 year old Thinkpad though it does have decent specs.
2.70 GHz 8 core i7 intel and 16GiB of ram with SSD hard drive.
Kubuntu Plasma is every bit as fast as Xubuntu on this machine.
The great thing about Linux, though my experience is only with Ubuntu based, which Mint is, is that all you have to do is back up the Home folder to some external media or a partition and then install another flavor, restore the Home backup and reinstall all the apps you used. All your file and settings will be right back the way they were. Open a browser and you’ll have the same History, Bookmarks and even open Tabs.
Separating large data sets is a good idea, and your approach is a good one, but most end users don’t have the opportunity in their use of a Windows PC to pick how the partitioning works and where their user directory is located.
