Windows 11 leak reveals new UI, Start menu, and more451The next version of Windows has leaked online

Microsoft’s upcoming Windows 11 operating system has leaked online today. After screenshots were first published at Chinese site Baidu, the entire Windows 11 OS has appeared online, complete with a new user interface, Start menu, and lots more.

The new Windows 11 user interface and Start menu look very similar to what was originally found in Windows 10X. Microsoft had been simplifying Windows for dual-screen devices, before canceling this project in favor of Windows 11. Visually, the biggest changes you’ll notice can be found along the taskbar. Microsoft has centered the app icons here, cleaned up the tray area, and included a new Start button and menu.

This updated Start menu is a simplified version of what currently exists in Windows 10, without Live Tiles. It includes pinned apps, recent files, and the ability to quickly shut down or restart Windows 11 devices. It’s really a lot more simplified than what exists in Windows 10 today.

If you don’t want the app icons and Start menu centered, there’s an option to move them all back to the left-hand side. Coupled with the dark mode that’s also available, and Windows 11 starts to look like a more refined version of Windows 10 than something dramatically new.

“After screenshots were first published at Chinese site Baidu”

How did they get it first? Did China help with all the new window dressing? What else did they “help” with in the backroom?

I wonder if Win11 will be a free upgrade.

They’ve said repeatedly that there will never be a Windows 11, only upgrades to Windows 10 and that it is the final version.

Of course they could change their mind...but that brings into question the validity of this “leak.”

I thought this was from the Babylon Bee at first. Getting closer to my beloved Windows 7. Keep trying.

I have been in the Windows ecosystem for so long that I'm not about to change it. Furthermore, Windows 10 has been solid as a rock on the six machines I have it on. I'm definitely an "it if ain't broke don't fix it" guy.

Just read the whole article that lists all the goodies, all of which I already have available in Kubuntu 20.04 with the Plasma desktop. Win is always playing catch up.

Microsoft has reportedly been working on a new app store for Windows in recent months, and rumors suggest it will be a big change from what exists today. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has promised to “unlock greater economic opportunity for developers and creators” with Windows, and that will likely come in the form of a new store.

“unlock greater economic opportunity for developers and creators” -- Yay, more ads for apps and content.

But I'm apparently not much of a proofreader. :-)

Can’t they leave the Flippin start menu alone? Dang! Another os ill have to find a program to return the start menu back to how I liked it for a decade or more, if I am forced to upgrade to it if I want to keep windows. They could give users the CHOICE to use the new one, or to use old versions of windows like 7 start menu if they wanted to, but nooo, they gotta force everyone to change what works perfectly fine for millions. Give us a choice ms!

That said, I’ll stick with 7 offline, and online only for online games

“Any of it” is right! If one want’s to dive deep every single element of it can be customized. You can even make your own custom desktop or distro. I have been working recently on adding custom GUI to command line programs. It is actually pretty easy. Basically just simple redirects from the graphics to the command program.

Of course very little of what you now have will work on W11 unless it is a subscription app that requires periodic tribute to M$. So you will have to shell out many $$ for new W11 compatible applications. But be careful, W11 may also have an internal list of applications that will not be allowed on your W11 system if the vendor is not ‘woke’ enough.

As someone here has said before: Linux, the best windows upgrade.
