Since March, dozens of brown pelicans appear to have been seriously injured by a person or people in Orange County, conservationists said.
The lifeguards in Orange County, Calif., brought the injured brown pelicans to the veterinarian one at a time, the birds’ large wings mutilated, their bones twisted and fractured...
...Of the 32 brown pelicans that Mrs. Wayns and her team have treated since March, only 10 have survived, she said.
The low survival rate is tied to the “extensive injuries that have been brought to them,” Mrs. Wayns said in an interview on Tuesday.
Debbie McGuire, executive director of the Wetlands and Wildlife Care Center, said many of the injured brown pelicans had bone fractures that protruded from their skin....

Even were someone so desperately hungry, that they needed to kill a Pelican for food, the humane thing to do is just quickly kill it.

This is generally how serial killers get started - exteme cruelty to animals. It takes a certain level of psychopathy to torture animals, and though its “only” anomals, law enforcement ought to devote the resources to catch this slime ball.
I saw Mutilated Pelicans warm up for Uriah Heep.
Based on what Merrick Garland tells me, I bet it was done by white supremacist terrorists. And if the victims were brown pelicans, it better be prosecuted as a hate crime!

The mutilations have happened before and since pelicans are usually just offshore on the surf line, I suspect fishermen may be doing this. Maybe the growing homeless population invading California beaches too.
I did a search and found other articles. The excerpt pretty much says all the info they have. One article said 32 birds injured.
