An Apple executive apparently used to fly his plane from Boise to Cupertino every weekday, a flight that took about an hour and a half.
That's about as long as it took Jeff Blickman — who recounted this piece of Boise tech lore — to commute to his job at Palo Alto every day when he lived in San Francisco.
“That sounds like a good life,” Blickman joked while chatting to SFGATE. He’s the director of investments and acquisitions for the Idaho investment firm Alturas and has worked fervently to attract new tech talent to Boise since moving there from the Bay Area in 2017.
Nearly half of Boise’s annual net migration from 2014 to 2018 came from California. That’s a testament to multiple things: California’s relative proximity to Boise, Boise’s affordability and, perhaps most of all, the growing appeal that Boise has among the tech class.
Boise is not quite a nascent tech hot spot the way, say, Austin or Miami is. Boise lacks the glut of brand-name figures moving in the way Austin does, nor does it have an aggressive government-sponsored campaign on par with Miami. But its proponents say what those cities (and the Bay Area) lack is the easy charm ingrained in Boise and its inhabitants.

Right. From what I understand, Mormons are lukewarm when it comes to supporting Trump.
The vast majority of these people are fleeing commies and SJWs.
I contend they will make Idaho redder.
I would like to think that too. Sadly, a California “conservative” is to the left of Obama.
One of my favorite towns where I live in Wa state is Walla Walla. Used to be all conservative wheat farmers. Wine growers (liberals) have taken over and it’s all trendy shops and Prius drivers. The county went blue for the first time ever a couple elections ago.
Utah has the same explosion of Cali commie pouring in fir tech jobs and low lifes and diversity from Las Vegas / S cal
SLC is blue and crime ridden .
It wont be Red for long .
Cold doesn’t seem to be impairing the blue in the upper midwest or northeast.
Reg folks are fine .
Its the church big shots that run the Gop .
They are globalist sell outs like Mike Lee and Pierre .
They want more church goers from the third world .
Trump won Utah with 58% of the vote (around 300,000 margin). The state to watch is Texas where Trump won with 52% with 630,000 edge over Biden. I think in Texas, Hispanics are going to become redder because of what Biden Administration is doing with the border which is total lawlessness.
“Trump got 63% in 2020. In 2012, Romney had 64%. So this thread is much ado about nothing.”
That’s Idaho as a whole. The thread is about Boise.
In 2016 the city of Boise voted 52% to 34% AGAINST Trump. In 2020 Trump lost Boise 63% to 34%. The Ada County suburbs outvote the city for now, giving Trump a 9% win in 2016; the county margin was down to 3.9% four years later. Do we notice a trend?
So the point of the thread is quite germane, even though the invasion of Boise doesn’t necessarily mean the entire state is going to flip anytime in the near future. But only a fool would believe it could NEVER happen — that’s what some people thought in Arizona too. And Colorado. And Nevada. And Oregon. And Washington. And Texas. And....
I agree; it’s not cold like the upper Midwest or New England. But the snow can stick around for weeks and months sometimes (I am lower elevation than Boise and we share the same storms).
One upon a time, nearly all airports were like that — because they were located on the outskirts of a town where there was plenty of [cheap] land. Fly into Denver from the east and you’ll get the same thing — it’s out in the middle of nowhere. (I think the plane taxis all the way to Kansas before it finds a runway to take off from.)
I would hope that most Californians would read your comments and share the sentiment and stay the hell away! :-)
I lived there and then up in McCall where there is real snow.
Idaho is more of a desert that calif. They will run out of water first.
Then power, I used to want to retire in idaho, not any more. They are installing air heat pumps in New builds. A disaster waiting to happen in a cold climate. Ask Texas about their air source heat pumps when it Got below 40
” They are installing air heat pumps in New builds. “
All the residential heat pumps around here (WA) have resistance-heating backups.
Come over to Minnesota and tell me that.
Leftwing trolls.
