Unlikely. Dogs which are known to bite are put down by shelters.

Perhaps they didn’t disclose that, and gave other reason or reasons of why they had to give the dog up for adoption.

Only if the individual turning them in states that they bite on the intake. If that’s the case they are generally labeled dangerous and euthanized.

Previous owner probably knew, didn’t say, and dog showed no signs of aggression while in the shelter so it got adopted out.

Also some dogs can seem fine then something sets them off. I follow a local rescue who does amazing things for mill dogs and some strays. The rescued a sweet dog who was fine for weeks. The guy fostering him know dogs and behavior issues. Noticed some food guarding. Worked on resolving. Dog lost his mind one day and tried to attack. Got a good sized bite on the guy. With the food and u provoked attack, they decided to put the dog to sleep. Could and would not take a chance that the dog could go bezerk.

My neighbors adopted a black lab from a local shelter. It bit two children on their faces. Adults were present. The biting incidents were unprovoked. When they returned the dog to the shelter, the shelter lady admitted the dog had been returned before for biting young children.

Unless the previous owners do not tell the shelter about it.

A very common thing, as people are afraid the shelter won’t take the pet they’re abandoning if the truth be told.

I used to volunteer at my county animal shelter.

Only if the owners tell the truth.......

Maybe 20 years ago I took in a two year old cat that promptly started tearing up the wall paper in my den and basement and avoiding me at all cost. The person I got it from originally said she would always allow the cat outdoors.

When I returned it to the lady I grilled her further and she admitted it was a feral cat living under her deck that she had trapped and took it to rescue.......
