Novavax (NASDAQ:NVAX) shares rose more than 6% in Monday’s premarket trading after the company said a phase-three trial had found its two-dose COVID-19 vaccine to be 90.4% effective.
The trial had 29,960 participants across the U.S. and Mexico.
The vaccine was found to be 100% effective in preventing moderate and severe infections and 93% effective against some variants, Novavax said. The company plans to file for approval with the Food and Drug Administration in the third quarter.
Upon regulatory approvals, Novavax remains on track to reach manufacturing capacity of 100 million doses per month by the end of the third quarter and 150 million doses per month by the end of the fourth quarter of 2021, the company said in a release.
Once authorized, the Novavax vaccine would join Pfizer BioNTech (NYSE:PFE) (NASDAQ:BNTX), Moderna (NASDAQ:MRNA) and Johnson&Johnson (NYSE:JNJ), the three COVID-19 shots already approved for emergency use in the U.S.
Barring J&J’s, all are two-dose vaccines.

J&J used fetal stem cells during their vaccine research, development, and testing. There are no fetal stem cells used to produce the actual vaccine doses and no fetal stem cells in the shot you get (there would be no point to that, they wouldn’t do anything there), but the vaccine itself is morally tainted because fetal stem cells were used during the process to create it.
Pfizer and Moderna did NOT use fetal stem cells to create their vaccines. They didn’t need to. Nothing is cultured or grown with mRNA vaccines. It’s just nucleotides packaged inside a lipid (fat) shell. FDA does require independent third party testing as part of FDA’s review process. That independent testing was done by a separate company and they used fetal stem cells to do their confirmatory tests, but it’s important to note that Pfizer and Moderna already had vaccine doses bottled, frozen, and ready to ship by that point. Fetal stem cells played zero role in the development or creation of those vaccines. However, they are both mRNA vaccines and some people are uncomfortable with that.
Novavax also did not use any fetal stem cells at any point in the creation of their vaccine. They culture spike proteins inside moth cells and then attach them to a virus-like particle (VLP), which is basically just a protein shell. The body treats it like a virus and attacks it. No mRNA involved and no fetal stem cells used to create it. However, Novavax will almost certainly run into the same FDA required testing situation where a third party will test the vaccine however it chooses (if this hasn’t already been done). And that third party might choose to use fetal stem cells in their testing.
But this would be like if some lab bought Tylenol off the shelf at Walgreens and tested it on fetal stem cells. Would we then say that all Tylenol is forever tainted by abortion? Clearly not. Fetal stem cells weren’t used to create it or test it and the fact that someone later came along and did extra work with it using fetal stem cells doesn’t change that fact. I don’t believe the BS about any vax being 90% effective. For years we have had a Flu vax and after the season is over it turns out the vax was only around 30% effective. So now we are being fed this BS about 90%. Sorry that is as big a hoax as the COVID itself.

You are so right, and incidentally I usually get a flu shot every year knowing the odds against it working are less than 50/50. This is just another reason to dismiss their C19 propaganda.

That’s been a real problem for Novavax and others: people in the study threatening to drop out and break blinding so they know whether they need to get another vaccine or not. It’s getting harder to run a study now because the type of people you get signing up for a vaccine study are the type of people who really, really want to get vaccinated. When there’s nothing else available, finding those people to sign up for a chance at getting the vaccine is easy. When they have easily available options, you lose a lot of people.
Different vaccines offer different levels of protection. The annual flu vaccine is typically 40-60% effective, depending on the year. That’s because it takes months to manufacture, but Influenza rapidly mutates and has multiple strains - any of which could take over as the dominant one while the vaccine for that season is still being produced.
The smallpox vaccine is 95% effective. The whooping cough vaccine is about 80% effective. The polio vaccine is 99% effective after 3 doses and nearly 100% effective after 4. The Moderna and Pfizer vaccines are both close to 95% effective and the J&J vaccine is around 83-87% effective.
Now you’ve gone and done it. You’ll have them convinced that Noravax inoculated people will grow insect wings. Moth cells! OMG!
