(CNN)The US government has spent the past week assessing a report of a leak at a Chinese nuclear power plant, after a French company that part owns and helps operate it warned of an "imminent radiological threat," according to US officials and documents reviewed by CNN.
The warning included an accusation that the Chinese safety authority was raising the acceptable limits for radiation detection outside the Taishan Nuclear Power Plant in Guangdong province in order to avoid having to shut it down...

Despite the alarming notification from Framatome, the French company, the Biden administration believes the facility is not yet at a "crisis level," one of the sources said.
While US officials have deemed the situation does not currently pose a severe safety threat to workers at the plant or Chinese public, it is unusual that a foreign company would unilaterally reach out to the American government for help when its Chinese state-owned partner is yet to acknowledge a problem exists. The scenario could put the US in a complicated situation should the leak continue or become more severe without being fixed.
However, concern was significant enough that the National Security Council held multiple meetings last week as they monitored the situation, including two at the deputy level and another gathering at the assistant secretary level on Friday, which was led by NSC Senior Director for China Laura Rosenberger and Senior Director for Arms Control Mallory Stewart, according to US officials.
The Biden administration has discussed the situation with the French government and their own experts at the Department of Energy, sources said. The US has also been in contact with the Chinese government, US officials said, though the extent of that contact is unclear.

Great..now we will have mutant COVID. Wait, we already do.
Moving the goalposts, a leftie M.O. all around the globe.

The Chinese are soon to have their own Chernobyl. What they get for building an atomic reactor in a densely populated area.
Uranium-fueled light-water reactors are SO 1960’s. Come on, the world has moved far on beyond these primitive and bulky cumbersome examples of brute power technology that is only a younger brother to atomic weaponry.
Similar to how we lower standards for women in our military....minus the radiation poisoning.
I hope it melts down, and the Three Gorges Dam breaks in the same week. F China.
Maybe the Chinese are looking to test some type of new cancer drug on their citizens after about a million come down with leukemia or other forms of cancer....it should not be hard to find them, since most of them will be glowing in the dark....
It wouldn’t surprise me. How many were murdered in the Cultural Revolution?
You’ll own irradiated pet food and you’ll like it.
It’s not hard for me to believe they deliberately released Covid onto their own citizens, they had a vaccine already under development and most people would never think a government would release a virus onto their own people on purpose....
Look at all the useful side effects that have happened to China, they have severely damaged the economies of all their economic competitors..they have gained invaluable research into how Covid spreads among a population..
The probably have gained invaluable research into how the DNA of people helps/hurts them surviving Covid, they know what existing drugs are effective in treating Covid, etc....
IMO, it was a gigantic biological experiment using the population of the world as test subjects...just in case they really mean business and release something that does kill hundreds of millions of people...
Agreed. Life is cheap in China.
Unfortunately, if that happens our Dear Leader will be all too happy to offer trillions of US "aid" to the "people" of China.
Just like the Wuhan lab, full of leaks.
Sadly it’s not that much better in the USA, we funded the research into a virus that was used against us, what does that make Fauci and the other scientists who went along with this ??
We censored all talk about how the virus got started and any potential existing drugs that could have been used to treat infected people....
How many of the nearly 600,000 people who supposedly died from Covid in the USA would still be living had we not funded the research and started early on with existing drugs treating people....
Have they tried pugging the leak with some Wuhan flu glue?
Those little COVID critters have lots of spikes to knit together with.
I’m of the opinion that those in charge don’t care about America, but they are globalist trash. The last 20 years have destroyed many freedoms, and they are turning us against each other. I used to be an optimist, I no longer am.
Not to mention helping to get rid of Trump, the biggest roadblock to their expansion plans.
Nowhere in the article did anyone address why there was gas leaking from the reactor. Since a hole in the building would be easily addressed, I suspect the leak is due to an increase in gas, meaning an increase in fission. This occurs when the reactor rods, which slow down the reaction, are raised to increase the amount of heat the radioactive materials give off. It seems that the rods could simply be lowered. The lower they go the less heat and the less power. Is the problem that the reactor is being run harder to increase the amount of power output? That seems unlikely. What technology that America has would resolve this issue and why do the French need what seems to be an arms export license to share it? (Can anyone see the “Biden” administration denying anything that would help China?)
As an aside, there was no way to shut off the volume on the commercial that played before the CNN report. No THAT is worrying technology.
No one wants to lose face in China it seems.
