Instruments part of $2 million Southern California burglary

Local police investigators played a role this week in recovering several stolen vintage guitars, part of a nearly year-old $2 million Southern California heist.

Police are continuing to investigate a Santa Cruz connection to a Marina Del Rey heist nabbing some $2 million in stolen guitars. (Santa Cruz Police Department — Contributed) After receiving a tip from the Los Angeles Police Department, Santa Cruz Police Department detectives, with help from members of the Santa Cruz Police Neighborhood Policing Team and Santa Cruz County Anti-Crime Team, served search warrants Tuesday at three different city locations.

Police in Southern California had already arrested several suspected burglars in August, tying them to a July burglary of some $2 million in musical equipment and personal belongings from a storage unit in Marina Del Rey. Investigators later learned that some of the stolen guitars were being sold from Santa Cruz through the online site reverb.com, a legitimate online website.

Nine stolen vintage guitars were recovered from a Delaware Avenue warehouse and two associated residences, according to Lt. Arnold Vasquez. The guitars ranged in value from $5,000 to $50,000 each, with a combined recovery total of $225,000, according to Santa Cruz police. The Santa Cruz police have made no arrests in the local case, “as it remains unclear how the stolen property came into the possession of subjects associated to the searches,” according to Vasquez.

Somebody who didn't want stolen property in his home, in case the police came in?

That’s some good beat work.
Those officers should be noted.
Music to my ears.
That was a big scale operation.
Their theft ring just fell flat.

There is a place in Nashville that specializes in selling vintage guitars. Some of the guitars they sell are priced nearly that high. I would not value them that high myself.

I know of a banjo player that payed around $200k for a banjo, but that banjo is rare and also has some history.

Obviously, the department detective is very sharp. 😉

I meant which guitar mentioned in the article was worth $50K. None, as far as I can tell unless played by someone important.

Guitar/Bass Ping!

A $50,000 guitar? I can’t afford to fret about that!

I have a crap Gmail account just for that purpose. Use it for retail sign ups, web sites I don’t want to be spammed by, etc.

The problem with that is, any crap email I set up through Google mail is linked directly to my real one. I used to do that when I was using Outlook though. Outlook is much easier to hack so I got away from it.

I haven’t tried them but there is a site temp-mail.org just for this purpose. Sets up a temporary email that goes away in 10 minutes.
Allows you to register but avoids all spam after that 10 minutes is up.

I’m on the “no-buy” list since Sweetwater called and my wife answered the phone. They asked her how my new Baritone Ukulele was working out for me. She says to me, “You got another instrument???”
