Odd you expect that...Bennett has a long time track record of being to the right of Bibi, and is dead set against ANY kind of “Palestinian state”
Well, I guess my ignorance is on parade. I based my comment on an article a "conservative" wrote for the New York Times. If the Times chose him, I figure he's pretty far to the left. He said that everyone in the new government had to give up something. I read that as he's going to cave in to the Palestinians and the left. It's a case where I hope I'm wrong.
Bennett also served in the same military unit as Bibi -- albeit twenty years later. Bennett served longer and achieved the rank of Major.
Bennett has a law degree and is a self-made millionaire --- he's a capitalist by action and achievement, not by reading books.
He has a law degree and speaks English fluently. Bennett has one wife, four children and and he and his family live as conservative Jews.
Bennett has not waffled - he has always been against a two state solution and for annexation of the West Bank. His goal would be to accept 48,000 Palestinians as Israeli citizens --- a number that would preserve Israeli Jewishness and shield against accustions of apartheid.
The new administration will also focus on the forgotten Israelis --- which is pretty much everyone except Netanyahu.
He is a protege of Netanyahu and joined forces to end the chaos and lies from his former boss. And looking at what he and Lapid accomplished, I'd say Bennett is a better negotiator than Netanyahu.
We should be wishing this new government well. That proverbial "torch has been passed" to a new generation of Israelis. Solid, Israel-loving men and women who will be responsible for leading Israel through the 21st Century.
I agree with Gantz who told Netanayhu on Sunday: "Thank you for your contributions, we'll take it from here".
