I have been doing my own taxes since 1978 and it has NEVER taken THIS long to get a refund back from the federales. Of course they are blaming it on TrumpRID19, errrrr, I mean Covid.
In times past before hubs had a business, I worked it so mostly would break even or owe a little which I would pay on April 15th.
But since hubs has a biz and we experience a "paper loss" and also with Schedule E, investment property we are dumping $$$ into, we are expecting a refund over 6K.
Filed on 3/5/21. Website says "processing" Thanks Pedo Joe and the Ho!
I mailed mine in about mid March.
Done by hand, ball point pen.
I calculated, and expected $420.00 refund.
They deposited $421.48 into my checking account, late May.
No explanation yet for the difference.
“My mom’s return has been three months do far.”
I electronically filed a simple 1040 with Turbo Tax on March 21st. I keep checking “Where’s My Refund” at the IRS site and get:
“Your tax return is still being processed.
A refund date will be provided when available.”
I’ve called many times and regardless of the time of day the recording says call back at a different time of day. They don’t even give you a chance to be put on hold.
I am in much the same situation as you. Don’t usually get a refund but wound up with unexpected losses in 2020.
While I did finally receive my refund in May, I vowed that I would not do that again: from now on, I will select the “apply to next year’s tax” option and adjust my quarterly payments accordingly.
If I were you, I’d be all over my Congressperson for help.
You can log into your IRS account and look at all the forms you filed. You might want to create an account (verification cation in a pain) and look to see if anyone is filing for refunds from previous years.
My 2019 tax return was not right. I made an error. My stimulus check was with held.
Finally, I got a letter telling me that I owed them x amount. I wrote and mailed a check that day.
Well, by the time I filed 2020, they still had not processed the check I sent, so the system would not allow me to e file. I mailed it in in February.
The website tells me that I have not filed.
Gonna check again tomorrow, then try to call them.
Good idea
We e-filed on May 14. (1040) Got the refund direct-deposited on May 26.
I filed in February and got the refund about 4 weeks later. They corrected my return.
I didn’t select yes I got the stimulus check in turbo tax. IRS caught this and deducted $1200 from the refund.
I went back into turbo tax, selected yes I received the stimulus check and sure enough it dropped my refund by $1200.
I selected yes and the amount. I use taxact.com they go through numerous checks at the end before filing. I cleared all the checks.
It’s not a refund. It’s the return of your overpayment to the gubmint.
Agreed
I don’t trust doing this on the internet.
Only want to send a request for info to be sent to the ‘safe’ US mail address on file. No need to verify who I am, just send it to the address on file.
I have never filed online, nor have a ever entered my SSN to any online site.
