I have been doing my own taxes since 1978 and it has NEVER taken THIS long to get a refund back from the federales. Of course they are blaming it on TrumpRID19, errrrr, I mean Covid.
In times past before hubs had a business, I worked it so mostly would break even or owe a little which I would pay on April 15th.
But since hubs has a biz and we experience a "paper loss" and also with Schedule E, investment property we are dumping $$$ into, we are expecting a refund over 6K.
Filed on 3/5/21. Website says "processing" Thanks Pedo Joe and the Ho!
The same here. Our CPA sent them in a little late as we had refunds coming.
I finally got mine after 3 months.
I e-filed mine in right before May 15 deadline and got my refund a week or more ago. So FWIW they are processing returns.
We’re getting $500 back and still nothing. Of course it’s only been a month but I thought it was only gonna take 2 weeks. We usually owe so I have no experience with this.
You’ve been waiting since the beginning of March?
That’s crazy, unless something has simply been lost or overlooked during this unusual post-pandemic schedule.
Have you tried contacting your local Commissioner, who works with the Dept. of the Treasury?
Every state has one.
My state commissioner in California is Charles P. Retting.
I should add that I have been e filing for the last ten years at least
Did you file electronically?
There are boatloads of news stories on how the IRS is “backlogged due to covid” (TM) and is manually processing hundreds of thousands of returns.
I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one in this boat. Meanwhile, someone opened up three phony PNC bank accounts in my name probably to cash UIB. I don’t even have PNC as a bank provider.
yepper. been doing that since at least the past decade
I always have to send money after doing my taxes. At least this ensures the government isn’t getting interest-free use of my money.
Yes that is the way I used to work it as well, however when you have a business and investment property, I’ve found it doesn’t always work out that way.
Charles Rettig is the Commissioner of the IRS, not just the Commissioner for California
I got a notice in May 2021. We have accepted your 1040x for 2018. I have no recall of ever submitting this. If I did its over a year since then.
I wish there was an easy way us taxpayers could see what years are complete, what years are pending aka status, and what years haven’t been filed.
Deep state is operating deeper than ever before.
I received a notice that they accepted my fed and state e filing on 3/5/21. The state has sent the refund, however nothing from the feds.
Of course I have no real idea of what is causing the delay but if this yrs return is markedly different than those of past years it may have triggered an examination leading to an audit.
I expect that will happen to me next year when I file because my un reimbursed medical expenses will jump to a point near the 6 figure mark which will trigger a refund of almost everything I prepaid throughout the year.
Dunno.
I wonder what rules they use to determine the order in which returns are processed? One would think FIFO but apparently it is more complex than that — after all this is the federal government.
I’m retired and my returns are pretty straight-forward with just investments, SS and standard deduction. So I doubt mine raised any manual intervention flags so maybe that helped.
Hope you get your refund soon.
Oh. I see.
Sometimes, a private citizen has no choice but to start rattling some cages of elected officials who are supposed to be working for us. I’m not certain who she would directly ask for help in her area. If really desperate, maybe contact the Local News station. As long as one has data to show that would easily verify their situation.
Nothing much different other than a downturn of sales in my husband’s biz due to TRUMPRID19
