For decades, physicians and dieticians have urged people to limit their intake of high fat foods, citing links to poor health outcomes and some of the leading causes of death in the U.S., such as diabetes, heart disease and cancer.
But out of all the risk factors that elevate colon cancer risk, diet is the one environmental and lifestyle factor that might be the easiest to control—simply by changing people's behavior and eating habits—if we know the exact connections.
As foods are broken down and make their way through the gut, they interact with intestinal stem cells (ISC) that lie along the inside surfaces of the gut. These ISCs reside in a series of regularly folded valleys of the gut, called crypts.
ISCs are thought to be the gateway that coordinates intestinal tumor formation when they adapt to high-fat diets, and elevate cancer risk. Within the ISCs are high-fat sensor molecules that sense and react to high-fat diets levels in the cells.
"We were following up on mechanisms that might be required for stem cells to adapt to the high fat diet—and that's where we came across the PPARs," said Mana. These peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (or PPARs) trigger a cellular program that elevates cancer risk, but the mechanisms were unclear because there are multiple types of PPARs, and complexities in teasing out roles.
"When you think about this therapeutically, if you are incorporating a lot of fat into your diet and you want to reduce your risk of colon cancer, targeting two different factors is more challenging then if you are targeting just one."
Their first big clue came from the metabolic analysis. The high fat diet found in the ISC crypt cells they isolated increased the metabolism of fats, while at the same time, decreasing the breakdown of sugars.

The Standard American Diet (SAD) that has causes so many endemic health issues is both high fat AND high sugars/carbs. That combination appears to have a toxic beginning.
Isn’t the Keto diet high fat?
Very much so, but it is super low carb.
That appears to be why our bodies do so well with the high fat Keto diet.
I have started a lifestyle change due to my weight. Lost 15 in last 12 days. No more high fat foods, no more 2-3 30 oz dirt my fees every day, no chips, no junkfood. Just baked fish and chicken and lots of veggies and drink a gallon of water every day
I cannot believe the difference I feel in just 12 days. My ankles were swollen every night, that has gone away

Dirt my fees = Mt. Dew

Eat more lettuce.
dietary components high in saturated fats such as red meat are thought to be risk factors for colon cancer. They implicate red meats and obfuscate with Long Chain Fatty Acid (LCFA). You & I know the nature of LCFA; for the record, since the paper fails to cite the nature of their oft-repeated "high fat diet":
Saturated fatty acids:Long-Chain Fatty Acids (LCFA)
Myristic acid or tetradecanoic acid (C14:0) (in nutmeg)
Palmitic acid or hexadecanoic acid (C16:0) (in palm, palm kernel and coconut oil)
Arachidic acid or eicosanoic acid (C20:0) (in peanut and corn oil)
Monounsaturated omega-9 fatty acids:
Oleic acid (C18:1)
Erucic acid (C22:1) (in rapeseed, wallflower seed, and mustard seed)
Polyunsaturated fatty acids
Omega-3:
Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) or timnodonic acid (C20:5) (in oily fish and fish oil)
Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) or cervonic acid (C22:6) (in oily fish and fish oil, microalgae Crypthecodinium cohnii)
Omega-6:
Linoleic acid (C18:2) (in seeds and oils: poppy seed, safflower, sunflower, corn oil)
I'll take "What long chain fatty acids are prolific in the SAD?" for $1 Trillion, Alex.
Thanks for posting!
Psssssst:
(it’s not the sugars/carbs)
My wife and I purposely stay away from sources of Omega-6, which necessarily brings down several other additional concerning fats.
We do use coconut oil and grass-fed butter. Coconut oil is noted for having as its vast majority of fatty acids caproic, caprylic, capric, and lauric. These are technically known as “saturated fat,” but also “medium chain triglycerides.” I realize lauric is a borderline medium chain triglyceride with only 20% of its absorption like the other MCTs.
We also eat avocados most days and use olive oil (EVOO) unheated.
There are mighty fine fats out there.
All about...

What makes the difference? Our immune system. There was a stat that I read that if we live to be 70 years old, we will all have had cancer. Most of us won't know if because our immune system will have knocked it back.
And the diet that is continuing to be pushed by people who do these studies is the Food Pyramid. The Food Pyramid is a cobbled together nonscientific mess of government bureaucrats arbitrarily picking foods that are “good for us” and foods that are not, brain dead medial professionals and the system, and weird religious organizations. As far as I am concerned, the system that produced the Food Pyramid are idiots and not to be trusted.
Back to my point: the Food Pyramid and high carb, low fat diets destroy a humans immune system. It makes people extremely obese, insulin resistant, diabetic and that is at the root of a compromised immune system that allows cancer to progress.
What isn’t?
Could be lifesaving for you. Congratulations!
Lol....I was scratching my head on that.
Darn autocorrect. It’s evil :)
And, congrats, to you btw, on your diet/lifestyle change..

Hey I’m chubby too
Belly growing gotta do something...usually I just starve myself
Six five
Fluctuate 225-250
I’m nearing the high end sadly
I love to eat
2am mortadella sandwich can’t resist
I’ve been eating at home for the past year because of the virus. No more cheeseburgers and french fries. I really miss the french fries but I’m eating healthier food.
Every evening before dinner I steam some vegetables - either broccoli, cauliflower or some kind of squash - and then dip it in either mustard or a combination of mustard and sour cream. I eat the steamed vegetables as hors d’oeuvres. By the time the rest of the meal is ready I’m pretty full and eat much less dinner. Plus I’m beginning to really really like the vegetables.
2-3 20 oz not 30. So up to 60 oz per day.
