White House infrastructure talks with Capito collapse, leading to fingerpointing as Biden shifts strategy

President Biden ended negotiations with a group of Republicans led by Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) over his infrastructure package Tuesday as the two sides failed to strike a deal after weeks of talks.

A key part of Biden’s domestic agenda now enters a new, uncertain phase, as the president shifts his focus to a separate group of Democrats and Republicans in hopes of reaching a deal. But the failure to reach a deal with Capito, something liberals had warned was inevitable, could increase pressure on Biden to ultimately try to forge ahead with only Democrats as he did during the push for a stimulus law earlier this year.

The White House and Capito proved unable to bridge their differences, and they remained far apart on the scope of the package and whether to make changes to tax law to pay for it. Now, Biden will attempt to negotiate with a group of Democrats and Republicans at once, a challenge that could prove more difficult but ultimately lead to more votes.

One option Senate Democrats explored Tuesday is the possibility of breaking the infrastructure package in two. They could try to assemble one bill with Republicans and then try to pass a separate measure with only Democratic support in an effort to meet all of their objectives. Both strategies, though, could prove difficult to execute.

Biden shifted gears quickly. He spoke Tuesday afternoon with Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.), who has been part of a bipartisan effort that met Tuesday evening, as well as Sens. Joe Manchin III (D-W.Va.) and Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.). Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah), who is part of the bipartisan negotiations, said the members were going through items “line by line” at the Tuesday meeting, but they have yet to agree on a deal.

We have to elect better Republicans.

Flimsey Grahamnesty, Micro Rubio, John Hoeven, John Cornyn, Thom Tillis, Lankford, Inhofe, Scott, Scott, Romney, McConnell, Cassidy, Thune, Ernst, Boozman, Murkowsky, Wicker, Hyde-Smith, Shelby, Blunt, Sasse, Toomey, Rounds, Portman, Burr, Lee, Capito, Barrasso, and Collins are all Bush League Republicans willing to meet the Democrats halfway on destroying the country.

They just won’t go all the way at once like Senile Joe wants to do.

What the Hell is wrong with Republicans?
Biden’s agenda is on the ropes. He can’t pass anything per the reconciliation rules and pushback from Manchin and Sinema. Plus GOP Governors are blocking his agenda.
The leadership is still stuck in this fossilized thinking where they want deals cut and crap.
