Pffftttt! Should have been there in ‘66. LOL! I learned a lesson when visiting my godparents and I drove out from ABQ. Girls driving ‘fast’ cars were either in their boy friends car and knew how to drive or their own car and knew how to drive.

Happiness was a full tank of gas and an open road for me. Restless, I’d drive to Amarillo or Memphis for breakfast, both about the same distance, turn around and come back home.

Remember when Ronald Reagan was governor of CA?
Those days are long gone.

There was plenty of crap going on then too.
The Manson Family committed their murders in 1969, and were convicted in 1971. Vietnam was happening. The Kent State shooting was in 1970. The Weather Underground was active from 1969 to 1977, including the bombings. There were race riots in multiple cities. Watergate started in 1972. etc. A lot of what we’re trying to work through now started back then.

Back when you could buy a decent running 1957 Chevrolet for around $500.

Well the movie addressing this theme was being made then and was released the next year. The success of this movie led directly to Star Wars.

All that's long gone.
In fact, the only people ya see in these high end custom cars of days gone by, and gray haired old retired guys with money to blow...And those guys are now few and far between.

Last time I was in the San Fernando Valley I could not wait to get the hell out. It became an overcrowded seedy 3rd world, with millions of illegals and foreign nationals in every direction. It’s a flat out depressing place.

Van Nuys Boulevard looks quite different today. You take your life in your hands walking down parts of it.

My era
It was similar everywhere then but SoCal was the holy grail no question
Then it was you could hang out as kids in places....parks or shopping centers
You could drink at 18
Smoke at whatever
Much freer nation
I heard a Gen Y mom yesterday crowing how she thought it was a frat thing kids can’t hang out
I said yes. Karen..they all come to my house now
She was a Kali transplant ironically
The mommifikation of our nation in the arena where kids have parents...
