Before social media, society had far more trust in the press, and for good reason.
Once upon a time, we woke up looking forward to stepping outside and grabbing that ol' newspaper, so we could spread it along our kitchen table, sip on our coffee and get on with our ‘in the know’ state of the daily news.
Once upon a time we turned the radio on during our rides to work and enjoyed listening to the current affairs of our local area and beyond.
Once upon a time, we looked forward to coming home from work and turning on the nightly news on our big televisions while resting our feet on the perpetually loved recliner after a full day of work.
Once upon a time we believed that reporters, journalists and media editors were our trustworthy source of information… and those were the times when ‘the whole truth, and nothing but the truth’ meant something to us. We would find ourselves connected to information, diving into being well informed and being excited about our daily newspaper ritual. We were educated on current affairs; we were dependent on the hard work of the correspondents who ensured unbiased accuracy on the news being delivered to us. Those days have fallen behind us, leaving us forced to consistently get around the truth.
For those of us who know true journalism, we know we are reaching a critical point where we are forced to question everything and everyone; we can no longer read the paper without fact checking, we can no longer watch the news without questioning the context of content, we can no longer listen to the radio without feeling increasingly misguided. What comes next? Divergence among society? Where did it all begin? Did we see it coming? What comes next?

I think there has always been a battle between good and evil. There have been highs and lows. Right now is just more noticeable. We then to forget painful things in the past.
I don't any more....
While the bias, lies and manipulation have become blatant and obvious you have to question just how much manipulation has been baked into the MSM going back decades if not since its inception. I know one thing for certain I will never trust the MSM again about anything.
The only place with reliable truth has not changed through the millennia - the Bible. Anything else is subject to the spin of the person reporting it. It may have been more balanced in the past, but there has always been spin
There are still people out there who will not sacrifice their credibility for results.I think Mark Levin is such a man , for example.

Or coming home and finding the evening paper on our doorstep, if we didn't stop at the newsstand to buy one on the way home.
Like Fred did in the original intro to "The Flintstones" (the "Meet the Flintstones" intro wasn't unveiled until season 3).

For me, the questioning happened when I learned what actually happened during the Tet offensive compared to what Walter Cronkite said happened - and what it meant.
For me that was the end of trust in the press. It’s one reason I dumped TV in 1997.
The result is that my political opinions are 180 degrees from most people and even out of touch with many here on FR.
There are some really enjoyable writer at American Thinker. As a matter of fact at a lot of the conservative outlets.
Working from back to front, we can all picture it leaning back on the headboard. After inhaling deeply then slowly exhaling the smoke in an obvious expression of satisfaction, it showed no remorse or guilt.
Now if we're talking about a mirror let me relate as a forty some year smoker, you're going to get that mirror yellow pretty fast which of course has nothing to do with mendacious propaganda.
I stopped watching TV when they cancelled F-Troop and Flipper. I stopped get the daily paper after 9/11 when the Detroit News published an editorial that said now they were going to start being more honest than ever.
I much prefer the wild west of information we have right here at Free Republic. It's not all true. It's not all false, but for the most part what we have in common trumps whatever our differences may be.
What I noticed during the 60’s as a kid was that ABC, NBC, and CBS news all covered the same stories, and sometimes the same human interest story. I couldn’t understand why three independent organizations would cover the exact same things on their nightly broadcasts. ( especially the “ human interest stories”). Surely their should have been more differences.
I have a bit of a different take on this.
Social media (i.e., finding news on the Internet) has exposed the public to many facts and truths that were routinely buried by the “Mainstream Media”.
While it is certainly true that there is much “misinformation” on the Internet, a critical thinker can also find the truth there. I am not sure that the same can be said of the Mainstream Media any more.
It’s always up to each individual to determine the truth of every matter for themselves — and that’s why some flourish and thrive, while others fail in everything they do. The latter perish and become extinct, while the successful live on. That is what life and evolution is. Nobody knows the truth for all eternity, under all circumstances — or they would live forever, and the fact of the matter, is that no one has that perfect knowledge; it is always a work in progress.
In earlier times, a few claimed to know the truth as though it was handed to them personally from God — and later, groups organized into “professional” societies as “experts” — claiming exclusive rights on their “jurisdiction” (turf), but even then, it was obvious that only a rare few knew what they were talking about, and most only pretended to — and that was good enough to get them by.
But because now we see and hear all the voices instead of merely the self-designated few, some have become better at “discriminating” the authentic from the fake — and many prefer the fake and being bamboozled as all they “know,” and want to know. It’s tough to convince them there is a whole world out there beyond what their “leaders” tell them exists.
Of course they are going to keep the best secrets to themselves — to retain their power, control and status above the others — as their competitive (survival) advantage, and that is where the ability to discern the authentic from the fake, has a tremendous advantage — and is key to a truly good life.
Otherwise, you have your Portlandias — where only the most ruthless and destructive survive — and their governors and mayors are proud of that fact.
If it is not in The Bible, they are lying to me.

John 8:
44 You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.
The media has been lying to us since forever.
The Spanish American War? A result of Yellow Journalism.
