The reason to use humane methods is to silence critics of capital punishment. And that deserves some consideration.

And to satisfy the Eighth Amendment to the Constitution as well which prohibits cruel and unusual punishments.

I chuckled in my imagination seeing him struggling with the electrodes putting out about 200 volts with about 1 or 2 amps. It might take an hour or more to finally cook him. I suppose you could squirt him with a water hose to draw more amps.

What made the Nazis evil is not that they used Zyclon B. It was who they used it on and how they deviously used it. We used to have a gas chamber to execute convicted murderers. That does not make the gas chamber evil. If the Nazi victims were shot en masse by firing squads does that mean we ban bullets for all time?

Nitrogen
I have worked in some refineries where some workers died of asphyxiation. An example is where a confined space is flooded with nitrogen. A worker just opened the hatch, did not do a job hazard analysis, no hole watch, and just climbs in. He never knew what hit him. He passed out, died of anoxia. Someone else impulsively climb in to rescue him, and he went down.
With nitrogen, unlike hydrogen cyanide or carbon monoxide, has no discomfort. It just shuts the body down.
