A township municipal judge in Vermont will halt this and cause 30 years of litigation.

A good use for all this electricity would be to power the massive electric strip mining shovels and mine even more coal.

These two scumbags will sell the nuclear waste to anybody who wants to kill millions of people with a dirty bomb and leave fertile farmland irradiated, so more millions will starve to death.

Their is a whole class of "Gen 4" Nuclear Reactors on the drawing board.

Many of these cutting edge designs are coming from Canada, and frankly I am afraid the U.S. could loose the lead, in N-power if we had one at all. These designed use a host of fuels, some will burn current waste and design features that I can barely wrap my head around. One uses "heat pipes" not water or molten salts to transfer the heat

I am not fan of Gates or Buffet, however they have piles of cash to throw at these Gen 4 projects. Warning, Gates threw a ton of $ at the linear piston diesel that imho was a kludge, and it quietly disappeared. So even though he throws spaghetti at the wall it doesn't always stick.

Not investment advice, however this might be a marketplace to keep an eye on 3 to 5 yrs hence to see who goes public and if interested how to get aboard, some of us might already be following them, especially on Twitter...

I like the idea- nuclear power is good.

I wonder though, if this might explain Liz Cheney’s weird behavior. She gives them some red meat criticism of Trump in exchange for them putting the project in her state, plus this state’s legislature is less likely to object to nuclear power than the typical “blue” state.

This type of reactor has been on my radar ever since I caught a few ted talks from former anti-nuclear power leaders showing that it now IS the future and is the safest form of power generation.

I give them kudos for changing their mind as they obtained new information.

Coal is bad but nuclear is good. These people are insane.

Gates and Buffett should be forced to live in Chernobyl for a month and see how they like it, if they survive.

SODIUM-COOLED fast reactor ..... they are out of their minds! Yes than can build it and it will function but it has NONE OF THE WALK-A-WAY INHERENT SAFETY FEATURES on a Gen. IV Molten Salt Reactor. The IMSR being developed by Terrestrial Energy seems to be the most logical and simple overall method I have seen. Don’t let the “perfect” be the enemy of the “good”. www.terrestrialenergy.com

A Sodium fast reactor is a “new kind of reactor”? I guess EBR 1 was a “new kind of reactor” in 1951, Gates’ and Buffet’s reactor not so much. Here’s hoping their reactor doesn’t end up like EBR 1. Maybe there’s a reason Sodium fast reactors never became mainstream. There were a few built, all gone now. Japan has been building one for 30 years, it will never go on line.

“Natrium reactor”

Sodium-cooled uranium reactor, I think. But “natrium” sounds more benign and greener, so I can see why they would use that name.

Not using a LFTR. Idiots.

Nope, let’s use Uranium/Plutonium. By all means.

This is what makes these two so evil. They COULD use Thorium, which is plentiful, cheap, and the waste product is used in future Thorium LFTRs.

On top, they’re going to use sodium as a coolant. Corrosive - very corrosive.

There is ONE viable small-scale/large output nuclear tech available, and it is Thorium based.

The major drawback of Thorium is that in only produces power.

Existing reactors process Uranium into Plutonium. That’s basically their job. The power is the byproduct, and the pretense for building it.

If Gates follows through on this, it will go a long way towards getting him off my sh*t list.

This must be a pilot program. $1 billion isn’t much for a nuclear power plant.
