A 14-year-old girl was hospitalized and a 12-year-old boy was in custody after they were involved in a shootout with deputies in central Florida following a home break-in Tuesday.
The incident happened in the town of Enterprise, located in Volusia County, after the girl and boy ran away from a juvenile home for troubled children, Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood said.

Yep. That was back when you could leave your car unlocked when it was in your own driveway. And we all watched ‘Leave It To Beaver’ to see what trouble the Beav got into that week. (As best as I could remember, he never shot at any deputies.)
Anyway, a friend had one of those glass-fronted gun cabinets. He turned it into a book cabinet.
I'll bet her resemblance to the girl who was shot while stabbing another last month will be "uncanny".
I worked with “troubled” youth for years. Believe me when I say, they know what the hell they are doing. Lock them both up and throw away the key. The chances of them becoming productive, law-abiding citizens is practically nil.
How old was he when he died? Did he have a clean record after 18?
In some respects it is more the frequency than the severity. I assume the Arkansas kid didn’t burn down the youth jail and then rob someone and then shoot at police. .
Never will be, they are hardwired for violence......I can't imagine the home life they had to endure before they ended up in the system.
Six months in juvie should do it.
No doubt 10-15% of the population is bound for trouble regardless of efforts to “reform” them and change their attitudes. (that number may be higher)
” I assume the Arkansas kid didn’t burn down the youth jail and then rob someone and then shoot at police. .”
As to his age when he died, he may have been in his early 30s. The shooting occurred in 1998 and he would have been say 12-14 at the time. Five were killed.
Her mother will be saying "she didn't deserve to get shot for what she done."
These are not half way houses, this is a group home for kids with anger issues etc. This 14 yo is serious messed up
Sleepy46 would buy her some ice cream, but she's too old for him.
When I was in the ‘business’ a long while back, group homes were one step up from where I worked, a “youth center”, read juvenile prison. There were far fewer facilities for girls than boys and I imagine that is still the case.
I gather he stayed out of trouble after getting out.
The girl had to have been in trouble several times before going to the youth center and then several time after. Her future odds of staying out of trouble are not very good.
I gather he stayed out of trouble after getting out.
Starting their criminal career early.
Joe Biden can counsel the little girl.
That is good to know and make sense.
I would hope alarm bells wouldn’t go off if he had bought a MAGA hat.
No relation... Joie Chitwood was the head of Daytona, Mike is the sheriff. The Sheriff was born in Philadelphia...
At the rate she's going, she won't make 18. So sad.
In CA you have to store in a state approved safe.
And if an underage gets your gun and causes problems, you can be liable.
