My sister named Karen died in 1960 at age 8. My parents are gone now and wouldn’t have understood what they did to that name. My father visibly mourned till he died in ‘06.
I recall when just about every other girl was named Linda. But that name is now rare among young people.
She went to prison.................
My wife is named Karen. Her birth was in before the peak, in 1964. :-)
She HATES the new “name shaming”.
Makes sense as many of the women throwing fits in public over mask-wearing tend to be in their 50s.
Names, I believe, are cyclical. Some go in and out of fashion. For a while, very few boys were called William, Robert, Andrew etc... but I’m hearing that name a lot more now. My Mom considered the name “Deborah” for me... my maternal Grandmother thought it was “new” and “sounded stupid”. What is old will become “new” again at some point.
I bet no one would find that funny and it probably wouldn't make it into mainstream advertising as the Karen meme has. Just sayin'.
Not many boys named Adolf either.
Same thing that is happening to Meghan and Heather.
One name I wish would come back into vogue is Nannette.
Needs to be gender neutral like Taylor or Blaire.Dakota or Kai.
No mas Karen in 2020, but Carina will be among to the top names in 2021 with the influx of illegals through our southern border.
My sister Karen passed away 6 years ago.
I have a sister named Linda.
Meanest woman alive. LOL
She was attacked by a would be rapist, she kicked his a$$
And she will shoot you.
Always knock first.
The worst girlfriend that I ever had was named “Karin”. Though spelled differently, she lived up to the cliché and was a nightmare. Her first husband enthusiastically dumped her and I’m now curious if the second one is hanging in there. (Of course, she also turned into a Hillary loving proggy.)
Number named Hillary since 1992: Zero
In my uncles assisted living facility the persons name is on their door. Most are in their 90’s.
I always get a kick out of their old school names: Stella, Clara, Pearl, Dorothy, Roseann.
No Linda’s, Michelle’s, Melissa’s or Julie’s yet...the names of girls in the 60’s and 70’s I grew up with.
Now that the Covid madness is finally ending, I am predicting a spike in suicides. The mask “Karens” will no longer have any reason for living.
A “Karen” is someone who expects you to do better. Not surprising that it has become a dirty word today.
As if black women never throw public fits.
I miss Gertrude, Hildegard, Agnes, Peggy, etc. Some names have definitely gone extinct.
