I worked at three remote locations in Red China Fall 1976 to Spring 1977. My interpreter was a brilliant concert violinist. The Communist State said “We have enough violinists. You are now an interpreter.”
I learned everything I needed to know about communism in that one conversation with him.
Most people have a job.
I was thinking the same thing. I hope a lot of those people she’s talking about decide to go into the trades - otherwise, she’s not going to be very comfortable.
And she never told us what she perceived as the difference between ‘work’ and ‘career’ - or how she expects to keep herself in pretty jewelry and trendy decor. I guess she’s one of those people who thinks they’re going to make a million being YouTube stars - backed up by a healthy trust fund.
She did make a very few good points. A lot of us do put too much emphasis on success and money, and not enough on other things that matter more. I know one woman who ditched a six-figure job to work for half of that, because she didn’t like the job or want the stress. She became much more happy doing something she really loved, and has now worked her way up to making almost those six figures again, doing something that DOES make her happy. But that, also, required work and training. Nothing is ‘free’.
Hopefully, the young woman will grow up a little more (in addition to taking a very needed course in public speaking and English vocabulary and grammar).
Or marries a rich man.
I shudder at the thought.
in the former ussr, very early on they had planning committees that decided what jobs kids would have in the future.
they didn’t get to make that choice.
My younger sister just quit working in 2005. She managed to get a little over $700 a month in SSI and rent space in a house of a friend who needed borders. She could have done so much better but....
For those who want a career I suggest becoming a Youtuber. Make big bucks making a video a week or more.
Rake in the ad money : )
