Video shows 17-year-old San Gabriel Valley girl shoving away bear to save her dogs
KTLA ^ | June 1, 2021

Posted on 06/01/2021 10:09:27 AM PDT by BenLurkin

The surveillance footage shows the moment just after 2:30 p.m. when a brown bear and two cubs walked along a brick wall in the teen’s backyard in Bradbury. Three of the family’s dogs started barking at them. At the time, the family was gardening at another end of the yard when they heard the barking. Videos shows the bear swat at the dogs a few times before the teen runs up.

Video shows her shove the bear, causing the animal to fall backward and off the wall.

The teen suffered a sprained finger and scraped her knee, but she and her mother are thankful those are her only injuries. Hailey said she ran from the wild bear as quickly as she could.

The family said this isn’t the first time seeing a bear or other wild animals around their home in Bradbury since moving there in February. Morinico said bears are usually spotted in the neighborhood around two to three times a week.

But this is the first time any of them have gotten so close to the wildlife, they said. And it may be the last — both Hailey and her mother suggested no one do what she did.

“Looks like the bear was about to leap down into their yard.”

Yes, but then the teen wouldn’t be trapped in the yard with the bear... the bear would be trapped in the yard with this teen!

The bear lost its balance or she would have gotten a hard smack with claws out.

Wild animals come out of their habitats to search for water. The forest service should be putting out water sources in the dry areas.
Also, their habitats are being invaded by humans who don’t belong there.

I admire the girl’s nerve. The Bear is probably thinking:
“Nobody’s done THAT to me before! How dare you!”

Reporterette loses points for over-acting.

This! (Though it seems to be de rigueur with local news reporters these days.)

Got a good sized black bear sow (~400lbs)and two cubs running around my house. They’ve been around about every day for a week. Luckily my deck is 12’ off the ground. Scared em off tonight with leaf blower and yelling.

Smart,brave girl.

If she waited a half-second longer the near would have been on the ground inside the fence. She had the best chance when the near was precariously balanced.

Tooanu keyboard wusses.

There are far too many of those predators living among our women and children.

Someone should start selling “Bear Kits.” A Henry lever-action 45-70, a coupon for tanning the pelt, a coupon for processing the meat and a freezer to keep it in, and an appointment with an Indian to make necklaces out of claws and teeth.

Can you imagine how cool it would be for Hailey to go to school wearing a bear-tooth necklace, and its pelt instead of a coat?

The last couple of times I saw bears in the wild, that’s what they were.

A sow and two cubs in Idaho, and what looked like a young male up on the Grand Mesa in Colorado.

Bear was like Wut? That's not supposed to happen!
Then she decided to join her cubs rather than battling a crazy human defending her dogs.
Young lady was very lucky.
