If you like your current Firefox, don't download version 89.0 (redesigns browser appearance and tosses out all your settings)

If you like your Firefox browser the way it is, DO NOT DOWNLOAD version 89. They have completely redesigned the browser look and tossed out your browser userchrome.css files.

I like menu bars, not “hamburgers”.

I boycotted Mozilla’s products ever since they forced their CEO Brendan Eich to resign for simply making a quiet donation of $1,000 to California Proposition 8, which called for supporting traditional marriage in California.

Eich has since developed the BRAVE browser. I’ve been using it for over a year and I found it to be faster, easier to use and relatively secure compared to the Firefox browsers.

I went back to 88.0.1. This pisses me off so much. Before I went along with all the updates lately, I waited probably 2 years to update because of days like today. It's like going to work and finding everything rearranged.

“I boycotted Mozilla’s products ever since”

agreed

dumped them, gladly, proudly and easily.

Sounds like another instance of a project manager justifying his existence by changing the look and feel of something that already works.

I went to the Avast secure browser years ago. I do occasionally have to use Chrome on incompatible sites - about once every six months - but I like it a lot.

It also has two new features: I can download any youtube video as either an mp3 or a 720p video. And youtube videos are completely commercial free.

Were you able to import your bookmarks to Brave?

You will see the names Photon and Proton as you try to navigate the complex maze that is now FF 89.
Proton is Firefox’s new design, starting from Firefox 89.
Photon is the old design of Firefox which was used through version 88.

Or laughing their butt off because people hate the changes. Sometimes I swear they do these things on purpose because they enjoy ruining a good thing

Same here. I might add that Brave seems to be following the lead of the rest of the tech moguls of late though.

Bingo. Glad I am not the only one to have told them to bugger off on account of that political crappola. Mozilla went off the rails years ago, technically too, not just imposing ideology. Once FFox hit version 40 or so additional “features” were released on such a rapis basis that it was obvious they were racing against the development of addons that blocked adverts. They sold themselves to advertisers.
I recall Brave, but not enough to comment.
I do maintain the ESR versions of FFox, 45 and 52. Both allow addons and don’t suffer from too many features. They are designed for corporate environments where regular “updates” are unpopular. Just don’t allow updates and keep your anti-virus updated. Oh, and ESR52 is sloooooow.

Lol, reminds me of the “upgrade” from Win 7 to Vista-8-10.

My computer is not a cellphone or tablet...

Ugh not again. They did a total revision of firefox a couple of years ago. Destroyed everything, all add-ons, lost bookmarks etc. Why would they ever think of doing something like that? It’s like a new and improved bottle of shampoo made with Nair.
