Nevada lawmakers pass bill that would make it first presidential primary state (Iowa, NH too white)

The Nevada state Senate passed a bill on Monday that calls for making the state the first to hold a presidential primary in the 2024 election.

The Nevada Senate passed the bill in a 15-6 vote, after the state House cleared the legislation five days earlier, 30 to 11. It now heads to Gov. Steve Sisolak's (D) desk.

If signed into law, it would switch Nevada's contest from a caucus to a primary and move the state up in the nation's election calendar, passing the Iowa caucus and New Hampshire primary for the first slot.

Proponents of the bill are arguing that Nevada would be a better state to cast ballots first because of its diversity and population that reflects the demographics of the nation, instead of Iowa and New Hampshire, which are overwhelmingly white.

The bill, however, will have to garner the support of national political parties to officially shake up the 2024 voting calendar, The Associated Press reported.

The legislature's consideration of the bill comes as a behind-the-scenes lobbying campaign, spearheaded by former U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (Nevada), jockeys support for moving the state's contest up in the calendar.

Reid and other Nevada Democrats have said that Nevada's vote should switch from party-run caucuses to state-run primary elections, since the latter is easier to participate in, as opposed to in-person neighborhood caucus meetings, according to the AP.

Additionally, the group also highlights Nevada's demographics and diversity as a reason why it should be the first state to cast votes.

Iowa really screwed the pooch in 2020. I would be surprised if they remained first in the Nation.

How are they going to ensure they are the first state?

By holding a primary every November 9th, at midnight, just after the election?

Yeah, the other 'first' states will only escalate.

... and what’s wrong with being “overwhelmingly White”?

Is it the low crime rates? The prosperity index? The strong middle class?

… and the race is on.

Which state responds next?

Think they can get it up to 10 years before the election?

Note: Party rules mandate that early vote states are ‘proportional vote’ states. So being early does not help them much. Small states still will get ignored. Only later states can be ‘winner take all’. So minimal votes - split by the results means nobody cares to much.

“ states.

Sen. Bernie Sanders won the Democratic caucuses in Nevada on February 22, 2020, receiving 24 pledged delegates. Former Vice President Joe Biden was allocated nine pledged delegates and former Mayor Pete Buttigieg was allocated three.”

I suppose we should just pencil in Biden as “winning” reelection. Our election system is a complete joke.

Yes but 2 questions: 1) Rat fraud is easier to perpetuate in statewide Senate races vs individual House districts (the Rat fraudsters already control their House districts by huge margins). Is the Stupid Party prepared to fight the fraud in the NV, WI, PA, AZ and GA Senate races that will return control to McConnell? I assume so since we’re talking about Mitch McConnell here and ultimately Sleepy Joe will be hugely unpopular.

2) what will Speaker McCarthy actually DO with a Stupid Party House Majority? I’ll go ahead and hold my breathe now.

The real story here is eliminating the caucus which favors Berniebots and other non-corporatist Rat voters. Why else would Dingy Harry get behind it. Anyway perfectly happy for the Berniebot voters to keep getting beaten by the Rat Party until morale improves.

And NH is one of the safest states going.

Very low crime rate.

Course, being Constitutional Carry helps.

Almost every house has a gun safe and any one who breaks in to someone’s house is literally taking their life in their hands.

a caucus is a small riot, and a small riot is a stupid way to pick your presidential nominee.

We always have to win beyond the margin of fraud.

They will be so unpopular after 2 years of this nonsense that it will be another massive swing vote

- such as we had after 2 years of Clinton.
— where we got the first Republican Senate in 8 years
— and the first Republican House in 40 years.

Or the swing after 2 years of Obama.

The American people are going to return us to a split government !!!

Mitch is unlikely to be the Senate leader. We will probably have a change.

Just as we will have new leadership in the House.

The democrats tend to be stuck on their dictators.

By this rationale, DC should have the first primary followed by Puerto Rico. The “too white” states should be moved to the back of the bus. States like Iowa, New Hampshire and Utah wouldn’t hold their primaries until July.

In fact, Democrats should take a stand and not have primaries in any states where the population is over 60% white.
