Doodletown Pipers. U must be joking.
Hmm. That picture looks a lot like the Christie Minstrels. I seem to remember them from the 70s wearing red/white/blue and doing speedskating moves on stage while they sang.
I played Trumpet for Up With People during my last year in high school.
(Long, LONG ago...)
~Easy
Way too cheesy and artificially wholesome. Trying too hard to be too clean and too "nice"... not sure how else to put it...
This is a great suggestion. I wanted so badly to audition for UWP. Donald Trump’s platform is just the venue for this.
For a short while, I was with the local group in Stamford, Ct, during my high school time there, 1968 to 1970.
There are still 400 people in jail who attended his last rally, so count me out.
Just no.
Nor should trump pose with any Model T cars.
Nor wear clothes from the 60s.
Time has passed this by.
I HATED that song
Up With People! (1968)
It happened just this morning I was walking down the street
The milkman and the postman and policeman I did meet.
There in ev’ry window and ev’ry single door
I recognized people I’d never noticed before.
Up! Up with people!
You meet ‘em wherever you go
Up! Up with People!
They’re the best kind of folks we know.
If more people were for people
All people ev’rywhere
There’d be a lot less people to worry about
And a lot more people who care.
Well, that’s different.
I’d go for it.
I’m not inhibited by the “cheesy wholesomeness”. People have let 50 years of (San Fran hippie) hard rock turn them against anything that doesn’t have an “edge”.
“Freedom Isn’t Free” is pretty good.
