Hi Gina, it’s been relaxing but cold up here. Everything good?
Yeah, it’s a late cold snap across a lot of the nation.
We’re fine down here. A little cooler this weekend, but not by much. Glad to have tomorrow sort of off. I do have a little radio work, but I’m off from my other radio job.
Evening.
What’s happening? I’m a little afraid to ask.
Am I getting that predictable?
How’s it going?
Hi, Viking! How’s it going with all y’all? :-)
Well, I shaved off my beard and cut my hair, so I don’t look like I’ve been living under a freeway overpass anymore. It kinda freaked out a couple of the cats at first and they had to come sniff me to verify my ID. Been more or less staying inside the last couple of weeks. I think my blood counts are off - been as lethargic as a koala bear lately. Hopefully I just need a lube and oil change. Went to the Ren Fest two weeks ago, and true to form, it ended up a comedy of errors. People have been so cooped up for so long, we hit a 45 minute traffic backup getting onto the festival grounds. I made it to the pub crawl staging area with barely fifteen minutes to spare. We each got issued one of last year’s stainless beer steins, which was a bummer, because I’d already bought one online at a discount since they went unused after the 2020 fest was cancelled. I got to two taverns, veered away from my group to use the privy, and lost them after that. (At least the beer was cold.) It was so hot, I just sat under a tree for two hours until Connie and the grandson found me. I forgot my cell phone and she had it in her bag. Didn’t get any food except a cold soft pretzel, dang it. I had a menu picked out, too. At least they were entertained. The weather finally cooled off and we got some sorely needed rain, but Vision, feel free to FedEx some of that ‘back home’ weather down here. I got out for several hours Thursday (we needed groceries badly), but my legs feel like boiled linguini. Tomorrow we’ll cook out - just Italian sausage meatballs and red sauce this evening. I need to uncover The Meat Machine and see how much cleaning and service it’ll need before I do ribs. While I do that, I have several more blueberry bushes to plant (she dug the holes and moved her infernal rose bushes, finally), and there are plenty of Roma tomatoes, bell peppers, and squash to be containered. Muscadine grapes, too - I think I finally hit the magic threshold and have some long, beautiful vines now. She got back-to-back days off, but the pool is still a work in progress. With all of these supply shortages, it’s hard to find pool chemicals. Walmart was only allowing one bottle of bleach per customer, and flocculent, algaecide, conditioner, and everything else is available online only. The last pool company we called had eighty customers ahead of us and said to call back in April 2022. LOL At this rate, I might not be able to get in it until August. And, that’s the news from the Viking Lodge here in East Alabamastan for Memorial Day weekend, 2021. Hope your weekend is flowing along like a mountain stream. Which I’d like to be fishing in right now. I’m afraid to tune in tonight because I’m sure Murray will say something that’ll raise my blood pressure. Pinko bastard.
Oh, sure. One Northland bush got killed by a co-op of chipmunks last year, so I got four more - one Powderblue, three Brightwell. All varieties grow very well in this climate. The other three Northlands I planted are going gangbusters, and we’ve been picking and eating them since ‘19. The ones I got last month were only in one gallon pots but had fruit already. They only need to be about 2-3 years old before they get big enough to bloom and fruit. They also make great patio container specimens if you don’t have a lot of room and/or good soil. These varieties will each get about 5’x5’x4’ when mature, so in a few years, I should have a great hedgerow running the length of that wall, four in front, three spaced evenly behind. Southern-tier blueberries and muscadine grapes are two very easy fruits to grow and harvest, and you can find them seasonally in every mom and pop grocery store in the region. There are plenty of blueberries that’ll grow in mid-Atlantic climates, as well. Give them a big pot, good soil, keep them watered, fertilizer a couple times a year, and you’re golden. We have a couple of hanging strawberry pots, too, and she brought me in a couple the other day. Delicious. They’re real buggers to keep because the birds love them. Between all that and the fruit trees, it’s like a roadside produce stand around here now.
That sounds good.
I’ll say that I bet you look much better with a shave and a haircut. That’s just me, though. I like clean faces and short hair. :-D
"Why.....yes, we are!" LOL Never played one paying gig. Just like the country rock band I was in a few years before, we just had people show up and listen to us jam. Great way to score dates and free beer, though. We had a black bassist with an afro and his bass had a whammy bar. Picture Bootsy Collins playing Van Halen. LOLOL!
Vision, a funny thing happened while I was out during my beer run. My step-daughter called Connie. She's healed up from knee surgery enough that she and her husband went to north Georgia for a couple days to see his dad, and they were in Walmart. They found an entire case of Shock X-Tra pool treatment, but they were only selling two bags per customer. Connie did a money e-transfer, and they bought the whole case at the self-checkout and skedaddled. She told Connie they felt like they were shoplifting. LOL! Hey, we're the only people on her side of the family that have a pool that didn't come in a box, so it was worth it. The grandkids wanna swim and I get a good leg workout. *chuckle*
:-D Right-on, right-on, rocker!
