I’m only airing this on this public forum because I’ve never encountered it to this degree before. Here’s the story: new neighbors moved in about three months ago in my semi rural, large lot residential neighborhood in the outskirts of my large city. I’ve lived here exactly 14 years now, and in that time I’ve experienced a level of quiet peace that most people would envy. The sounds of nature is about as loud as it gets, discounting the occasional Harley or ricer racing down the nearby thoroughfare.
The neighbors are a large family of, shall we say, south-of-the-border derivation, and have had several loud outdoor after-dark parties, complete with the amplified Hispanic loud-bass music in the maddeningly plodding rhythm that we’ve all heard. They also keep a couple of medium to large dogs outside who bark sporadically throughout the night (they are tethered, which is another issue.) They also brought with them at least one rooster, which begins crowing loudly at 4:30 AM each morning. The parties include a lot of loud drunken yelling in Mexican and very loud laughing and conversation. The bedroom wing of my house is adjacent to our shared property line, about 45 feet away. I hear it all.
Before I go on, I want to make it clear that I am one of the biggest live-and-let -live people on earth. I reached out to them when they moved in to introduce myself and let them know who I was. They were standoffish from the start, however.
The last party, about a month ago, went past midnight, and I finally called the police to lodge a complaint. I figured if they somehow were oblivious to the city ordinances against unreasonable noise, and oblivious to the fact that the noise was disturbing a neighbor, they would need to know about it and make a decision. But, here we go again.
I love farm life and animals and can live with the rooster crowing and occasional dog barks, but this is developing into a persistant pattern. Am I being a “Karen” by reporting them? One part of me wants to be tolerant to a fault. The other part of me says that they have absolutely ZERO consideration for the peaceful enjoyment of their neighbors, so screw them.
Anyone with a similar problem?
In Philly we used to throw dead rats in their tiny back yard or on their doorstep. Dead rats were not hard to find. Fish were plentiful at the ethnic markets, too. People have cameras all over the place now, so it requires careful planning any more.
I also had a small degree of luck from playing recorded violin or massive church organ music out the window through a tube that directed the sound other than the front of my house.
This is an optimum time to sell. Or, find out whom they hate, and threaten that unless they pipe down, you will sell your property for a dollar to the first one of "them" you find.
We have just the opposite in our neighborhood in a blue county. All the adult people of color are respectful of others' property, but the entitled Eurowhite college-educated adults (and all the teenagers of every color) are the frequent trespassers on others' property, whether walking, biking or making their dogs poop or pee on others' lawns or expensive shrubbery. Go figure.
That is hilarious! Very creative!
Our two families from Africa are among the very best neighbors on our street. All hard-working, well-spoken people with respectful children.
A recording of what obama said,)“The most beautiful sound in the world is the Muslim call to prayer at sundown.” — Obama);
played 3 times a day may work as a chip in a compromise!
Splendid yard, rlmorel!
“Mexican is a nationality…not a language.”
Actually believe it or not, it is a language/dialect of it’s own and labelled as that.

Same way it turned "lose" into "loose."
Yeah, it’s large, but apparently still configured to be too close to other houses and backyards!
That’s like my house. We have a nice large yard, great for playing and for a real dog, but it’s a bit deeper than wide, so we’re FAR too close house-to-house. Believe me it’s caused neighbor conflict and just plain “privacy” issues. I much prefer the house my parents built, placed well away from the other houses. Almost never any conflict with the neighbors. :-(
LOL.
Lose and advice. Yup definitely (definately) some of the most popular bad usages and spellings on the net.
Honestly I think it’s because everyone has a voice on it. What used to be the few who used wrongly, explodes as more naive and even knowledgeable people pick that wrong stuff up because they keep seeing it on these fora. It gets confused.
You’re right - better strategy. I re-read what I wrote and I don’t like it. I’ve lived near Hispanic folks that were salt of the earth, good people who would never do this. What I meant was sell to a young family with neck and teardrop tatoos, paying cash. If I’m forced to leave a neighborhood because of aggressive neighbors. and permissive neighbors who leave me to take the heat for demanding mutual respect. it can go to hell.
ROFL
When I saw that comment I thought of Carlos Mencia.
He had a stand-up including comments on the Mexican native speaker. To the effect that Spanish wasn’t so romantic coming from Mexicans. He was actually spoofing on the manner they tend to talk, more than the bastardization of the language (like “honkie” whites etc).
One of my best friends is a first generation American from Mexico. He HATES the way illegals are so illiterate. They call trucks a “trucka”, which is “ el camión” in Spanish.
“Why chicken broth?”
Anything with lots of protean and nutrients. Put some in your shoes and smell them in a couple days.
LOL!
I think I’ll just take your word for it.
have a barbecue at your place for the local and state police departments and have them invite any ice agents they may know...
So were you educating him or chastising him ?
If the former, then you did miss it.
If the latter, then yep them rednecks are deplorable.
I think talking to them is the best option, but it isn’t the best option for everyone or every situation.
Barring that, I think the DB meter is appropriate.
