This means leave off the the cussing and swear words. No f-bombs. No c-words, no sh-words, etc. Not even masked. If in a headline or article you're preparing to post, bleep it out. Do not tale the Lord's name in vain. Use common courtesy when posting. Do not post insults or personal attacks against your fellow FReepers. Do not engage in flamewars or feuds. If you find yourself falling into one, disengage immediately and move on. You don't need to have the last word. Do not badger other posters. Do not demand an answer. If someone says stop, stop. Do not post threats, threats of violence, death wishes, etc., not even hints of ill will, not even jokingly. The FBI has no sense of humor. I hate it when the FBI knocks on my door or serves me a subpoena. Please spare me and maybe yourself from this very unpleasant experience.

1. The part of the hull that the ship rests on if it takes the ground; the outer end of the floors. The "turn of the bilge" is the part of the hull that changes from the (approximately) vertical sides of the hull to the more horizontal bottom of the ship.
2. (Usually in the plural: "bilges") The compartment(s) at the bottom of the hull of a ship or boat where water collects and must be pumped out of the vessel; the space between the bottom hull planking and the ceiling of the hold.
3. To damage the hull in the area of the bilge, usually by grounding or hitting an obstruction.

The thicker planks of the ceiling, found at the bottom of the hold and continuing up the inside of the hull to the start of the quickwork (or lining).

Planking attached to the inside of the frames or floors of a wooden hull, usually to separate the cargo from the hull planking itself. The ceiling has different names in different places: limber boards, spirketting, quickwork. The lower part of the ceiling is, confusingly to a landsman, what you are standing on at the bottom of the hold of a wooden ship.
In wooden ships leakage is enevitable. It was essential to separate valuable ship's cargo and stores from water damage. Spirkettening creates a gap between the cargo and any bilge water. It also provides a space to allow for internal inspection of the hull for any damage.
