As the two fringe cable TV outlets battle for former President Donald Trump’s affections, several high-profile One America News staffers have jumped ship to Newsmax—not just in pursuit of a larger audience, insiders said, but also as a respite from OAN’s increasing extremism.
Already known for its cartoonishly bonkers MAGA propagandizing, OAN in recent months has veered even further into unhinged right-wing territory. And Newsmax—which is often just as obsequiously pro-Trump in its commentary—has pulled back on its wildest election conspiracy theories while hoovering up some of OAN’s top on-air talent: news anchor Alex Salvi, correspondent Jenn Pellegrino, and reporter Amanda Brilhante. Those moves followed Newsmax poaching OAN’s White House correspondent Emerald Robinson last year.
Pellegrino, who served as a White House correspondent and on-air host for OAN, abruptly left the far-right channel earlier this month, only for Newsmax to announce her debut as co-anchor of a 9 p.m. ET program called Cortes and Pellegrino, co-hosted by former Trump campaign senior adviser Steve Cortes.
In late March, meanwhile, Salvi—one of OAN’s rare “straight news” anchors—revealed during his media-focused show After Hours that he was exiting the network after hosting since 2019. A few weeks later, Salvi quietly showed up on Newsmax, revealing his new role as a Rome-based foreign correspondent with the network. Brilhante, who’d been with OAN since graduating college in 2017, was hired away in February to be Newsmax’s breaking news reporter.

I don’t watch much boob tube, except during election season. I dropped Faux News for obvious reasons, and turned to OANN and Newsmax. I did not like Newsmax’s format. OANN had a more conventional news broadcast, and was solidly conservative, but did need to upgrade its on air newscasters. I hope they can replace these losses and bring on better people.

Newsmax has improved significantly, Kelly, Stinchfiels, Cortez and Peligrino, and Rob Schmitt. All really great! They have a really solid opinion lineup.
OAN is great for straight news. I’m trying to figure out why they aren’t growing as much as Newsmax.
They have a few folks that need to learn to read a teleprompter, one who talks wayyy to fast, one dude who stands and pontificates. It’s like OAN is for cutting their teeth.

OAN Is good stuff, though it most certainly had budget issues. That seems to be changing over the last year. They have gained more advertising which helps, but their Reporters are top notch and they provide a refreshing outlook on daily events. They will come to dominate soon enough as there is character there, and principle.

Alex Salvi was clearly as leftist as could be and Jenn Pellegrino was totally eclipsed by Chanel Rion and couldn't stand it. Good riddance!
I joined The Donald after finding out about the site while watching Salty Cracker videos last year. Last summer I joined Parler. I'd never had a social media account before. Then when the site was taken down, I joined Gab, thinking that Trump might end up on that at some point. I don't spend a lot of time on Gab. When Parler came back up again, I'd keep the page open through the day to check my notifications, but the site went down again not long ago, and although they have a login page to sign into, it won't process your login. At least it won't process mine. No biggie. I never spent much time on it anyway.
I understand Newsmax with Chris Ruddy being a Clinton supporter in controlled opposition. And getting into politics myself and seeing the intel thing which governs it behind the scenes show up on my doorstep, I understand everything that is mass media in politics is either controlled or destroyed. But do you have additional, more brazen examples of OAN as controlled opposition?
