An investigation is underway after hikers noticed nearly 100 trees on a public trail were cut down illegally.
“There is dead limbs everywhere and these trees– some of them will not survive. Some will, but some of them won’t. It’s not right,” said hiker Kay Sanders.
Sanders said she has hiked the Ouachita National Recreation Trail in Arkansas for 30 years and was devastated to see the damage done last week.
“You don’t have the right to do this. No one has the right to do this,” said Sanders.
82-year-old woman to lose her California home after she’s told she owes $38K in HOA fees According to the Pulaski County Sherriff’s Office, a hiker saw six men taking chainsaws to trees on the Ouachita Trail last week.
Central Arkansas Water, which owns the land through which the portion of the trail runs, says a homeowner whose property backs up to the trail contracted the work to be done.
“We don’t take things like this lightly. The tops of the trees look like something out of the Lorax,” said Raven Lawson, with Central Arkansas Water.
Lawson said she has received around 50 emails and dozens of phone calls from hikers upset about the damage.
She said they believe 100 trees were either cut down illegally or had the tops of them shaved off because the homeowner wanted to view Lake Maumelle, which was blocked by the trees.
“The view to the lake could definitely be increased. The view to Pinnacle Mountain could be increased. There’s definitely a lot of nature that could produce million-dollar views out here,” said Lawson.

He wanted a million dollar view. Maybe they should charge (fine) him that.

Yeah, OK
It’s the behavior not the wealth. Several of out neighbors are legitimately “wealthy” and they are great folks.
Some people just believe that money entitles them to do what they please.
Disagree with ya. And that’s OK.
This is about choosing to damage property you don’t own. Not scolding rich people.
It’s about admonishing people who choose to believe they can do what they please due to [insert entitlement of choice].
You can’t cut the hickory or maple on my property (or any tree for that matter) without my consent. I don’t care about your ‘views.’
We live on a lake. Others don’t. That doesn’t mean they can trespass on my land to use the pretty lake. Sucks to be them; they should have bought lake property or befriended us.
Absent an invite, get off my lawn. Where we live the no trespassing paint and signs mean something, and it is not about being rich. It’s about not being a self-important 4$$. We have neighbors whose net worth is two orders of magnitude more than us, and we’ve done alright. They are great people, always welcome in our home or on our land.
Money doesn’t buy or guarantee class in either direction.
Just my 2 cents.
