SPECIAL DISPATCHES FROM WASHINGTON.

WASHINGTON, Thursday, May 23. The steamship Pocahontas and the river steamer Mount Vernon, sail to-night down the Chesapeake. They will be gone a week. The detachment of the Seventy-first, under Lieut. PENDERGAST, goes on the Mount Vernon. They will sail almost direct for Fort Monroe, in order to support the forces there, in case of a movement on the Gosport Navy-yard. I am authorized to state that there are now two hundred and fifty thousand men under arms that are in the pay of the United States Government. These are all equipped, or will be by Saturday night. LEO.

FROM ANOTHER CORRESPONDENT.

WASHINGTON, Thursday, May 23.

The War Department has issued orders for the immediate withdrawal of all the regular troops from New-Mexico and Utah. There are about two thousand in the former Territory, and only five hundred in the latter. If Government contemplates any vigorous movement to recover and hold the line of military posts on our Southern frontier, the troops can be spared from New-Mexico; otherwise, in the event of their withdrawal, that Territory will afford the fillibusters, among the rebels, a convenient point of rendezvous from which to precipitate their raids upon Sonora and other Mexican Provinces.

Coup de telegraphique looks like the first patriot act.
We lost our freedoms to keep the union together.

For a war “all about slavery” the word ‘slave’ and ‘slavery’ doesn’t show up much in original news sources....
