Report says researchers went to hospital in November 2019, shortly before confirmed outbreak; Adds to calls for probe of whether virus escaped lab

WASHINGTON—Three researchers from China’s Wuhan Institute of Virology became sick enough in November 2019 that they sought hospital care, according to a previously undisclosed U.S. intelligence report that could add weight to growing calls for a fuller probe of whether the Covid-19 virus may have escaped from the laboratory.

The details of the reporting go beyond a State Department fact sheet, issued during the final days of the Trump administration, which said that several researchers at the lab, a center for the study of coronaviruses and other pathogens, became sick in autumn 2019 “with symptoms consistent with both Covid-19 and common seasonal illness.”

The disclosure of the number of researchers, the timing of their illnesses and their hospital visits come on the eve of a meeting of the World Health Organization’s decision-making body, which is expected to discuss the next phase of an investigation into Covid-19’s origins.

Fauci's comments came after he clashed with Sen Rand Paul on the topic at a Senate hearing earlier this month In front of the Senate Fauci said he could not rule out the possibility that COVID-19 leaked from the Wuhan Institute of Virology

On Thursday the White House renewed calls for an 'independent, transparent investigation' into the origins of the virus.

It followed a report from Republicans which found 'significant circumstantial evidence' of a lab leak.

My guess: I think the virus was intentionally released (note: that doesn’t necessarily mean it was created in the lab) and they are telling this story because they want to avoid the implications of the real story ever being discovered. This cover story lets leaders act outraged and even possibly punish China in some way without actually having the war that such an intentional act merits. China (and possibly some shadowy figures from other nations) killed over three million people (and 600,000+ Americans) and all involved will be allowed to get off easy because it did what it was supposed to do and reverted things in the US back to normal with the right sort of people in charge.

I’d believe the November date simply because we have a live British civilian who was in the area at the time and contracted CCPVirus in - November - and was treated in hospital by the Chinese for several weeks. As he related in I think two interviews, about mid-last year iirc.
