Israel is down to 120 cases in the whole Country.
Proportionally, that would be like 4,400 cases in the USA.
That is probably a good ballpark figure for where we are heading in the next 3-4 months - like a 98% drop from current case numbers.
Israel has over 90% of adults vaccinated.
We’ll probably get down to 4,400 in the summer before going back to 25,000 to 30,000 cases in time for the holidays. We are getting close to herd immunity but we’re not quite there yet.
In Colorado the 7 day moving average of new cases hit a 7.3 month low today. Out on the western slope no mask is required if you have been vaccinated. Nobody knows who has been vaccinated and nobody asks.
On top of the vaccinated, we have those who already tested positive for COVID, those who have had it without being tested (or the test failed), and those who might have a pre-existing cross-immunity to COVID.
We’re not exactly sure how long your immunity lasts once you’ve recovered from a covid infection (assuming you’re unvaccinated). So it’ll be interesting to see how many people get repeated infections among the unvaccinated.
“We’re not exactly sure how long your immunity lasts once you’ve recovered from a covid infection”
Yes, we’ll have to see.
But the total numbers of people with some level of immunity is getting quite high. 162 million with at least a first shot (61% of adults already - 60% was calculated for herd immunity against the original strain).
In April 2021, the CDC estimated that the total disease burden (tested and untested exposures; with or without symptoms) in the USA through March 2021 was around 115 million. (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/cases-updates/burden.html )
Look at the vaccinated curve and the case positivity curve (now below 3%). There is a high degree of correlation. Much to the dismay of the antivaxxers who will no doubt be here momentarily.
Progress is accelerating. I stand by July 4 and this is in the past.
Antibodies are still running high in the 9 - 12 months. I think once infected you have extended immunity. It will also give cross protection to other corona family virus just as the previous corona virus infections are somewhat protective with this strain.
Nothing new under the sun.
