I’ve read the “art of war” several times and I know that quote is in there, somewhere.
Actually, THAT one is from the Crusade against the Cathar Heresy in France. After one town fell, all the residents are to be found in its church. With no way to tell Cathar heretics from loyal Catholics, the crusaders aren’t sure who to kill and who to let go. The Pope’s representative puts the crusaders at ease with, “Kill them all, the Lord will surely know his own.” It’s a reference to a Bible passage.

Sun Tzu taught a holistic system. People take out one-liners from his work to sound cool, but they are still completely ignorant about his system. It’s second only to the Bible in terms of being quoted out of context and misused.

It is great reading these comments. One thing strikes me, though. China has one of the longest surviving civilizations on the planet. I understand they have reinvented themselves a few times to accomplish that, but that does not change the fact. They have some very smart people, even if we may not like their ideology.
One other thing that strikes me is a book that was published almost 30 years ago, The Bell Curve. Among other things, the book identified the IQs of various cultures around the world and how the IQ of the culture correlated very highly with the success of the civilization and culture.
The number one group with the highest IQ was the Ashkenazi Jews. Thumb through any phone book and look at the number of doctors and lawyers ending in ...”stien,” etc. Not bad for a culture whose population on the planet is less than 20M.
Immediately below them were the East Asians. Think of the island of Japan that almost wiped us out in WWII and now we are facing over a billion Chinese with our LGBQXYZ transgenders and a president that can’t string a simple sentence together.
