An Aurora police officer, Daniel Bertelson, sent a department-wide email this month as he announced his retirement, offering some barbs and harsh assessments of the current climate for law enforcement.
“I am leaving Colorado for palm trees and less communism,” wrote Bertelson, who spent 16 years with the Aurora Police Department.
“Try to ignore the politicians and media,” he wrote to his colleagues. “They know nothing of this profession or honor; they’re self-serving con artists, well-dressed pimps and prostitutes at best.”
The number of officers leaving APD has been increasing in recent years, jumping more than 60% from 2019 to 2020. That comes as the city is also seeing rising crime rates, a trend seen in other Colorado cities and across the country.

Forty five years ago the most popular bumper sticker in Colorado was...
DON’T CALIFORNICATE COLORADO!
well, now it has been, and they are moving in on New Mexico and Arizona.
You are an asshole. Have a nice day
The Democrat regime here has also been busy stripping protections that have generally protected cops and their personal assets from civil liability.
Aurora also has changing demographics. It's a huge suburb to the east of Denver. Growth really took off after WWII, but those aging neighborhoods are now run down and poverty stricken. Their crime patterns are like big city minority dominated areas.
Bottom line is I'm not surprised by this guy's decision.
What is wrong with walking once pension is achieved?
Adding to above, public or private pensions.
Kind of. Coffman used to be pretty good but increasingly he is whatever he needs to be to keep a government position.
“whatever he needs to be to keep a government position.”
Like many.
Exactly. This war on cops thing is a purge in disguise so the communists can infiltrate.
Aurora near East Colfax is run down. However, along East Smoky Hill Road, Aurora is very nice. The newer parts of Aurora are very nice. Cherry Creek High School is in Aurora and is one of the best public high schools in the nation. It just depends on which part of the very large city. Oh yeah, East Colfax in Aurora is quite disgusting 🤮.
There was no “bad arrest”. Everything they did was justified. The BLM scam artists (see “The Trayvon Hoax” on youtube) needed a new scam. That’s all. Check back with Aurora in three years. I’ll bet it’s a mess.
‘pub mayor.
Mike Coffman is a Republican, but he’s as weak-willed a RINO as you’ll find. I live in his previous congressional district (and in Aurora). After the dems succeeded in gerrymandering it, Coffman tried to walk the middle of the road by becoming more “moderate” and got crushed. Yet the Karl Roves of the world keep convincing these morons that the key to electoral success is to become “democrat lite.” That never sells because leftists want real democrats and conservatives recoil at “moderates” (RINOs).
People like Rove also seem to believe that “independents” are a group of people whose political leanings sit squarely between left and right, which is really foolish. The reality is that a huge number of independents are disaffected former Republicans who became independent precisely because the Republican Party followed the advice of Rove and others and moved too far to the left. Of course, Trump came along and proved the truth of everything I am saying here. But did the RINOs and the consultant class get the message? Of course not, instead they tried to crucify Trump and everyone who supports him. It’s like if they can’t be captain of the boat, they’re going to shoot it so full of holes that no one can be.
For the rest of us who would really like the boat to keep floating with a non-suicidal captain at the helm, we can keep patching holes as best we can while we futilely hope that the pouting vandals will come to their senses, or we can throw them overboard and get back to business. Oh, and definitely ignore Seaman Rove when he tells you to steer toward the rocks.
That's why many a city has dropped them. While if fired or quit with a private retirement account there is the possibility of taking it to another employer or investing it yourself.
That's why you see a stay and endure approach with many government employees, which we often see. As long as I get ‘mine’. Not much changes because of such conditions.
This FReeper article is quoted from denver.cbslocal.com. Sadly the police in that part of the world engage in sexually harassing and deviant practices in men's bathrooms, massively perjure under oath, back the mainstream media's right to threaten to rape left wing women, offload some of the risk of death that comes with their job so that a portion of the general population can be slaughtered to keep the police safe.
With qualified immunity, the State demonstrates its illegitimacy by legalizing criminal and felonious activity of uniformed officers. The USA is not the only country on Earth, and is not a model for the rest of the world.
That is the dumbest nonsense I’ve ever read.
What sort of mental defective are you? And what paradise do you live in?
The entire political class and others have been badly insulted.
It is the brutal reality. Tough on exposing American police as sex harassers, sex deviants and perjurers while under oath.
To the cops here from Colorado and other parts - DON'T SEXUALLY HARASS MEN IN THE BATHROOM. It is foul!
What the hell is wrong with you? Get some help.
American police refuse to absorb the risk of death that comes with their job. Instead they force a part of the general public, including those who have nothing to do with anything at all, into an early grave to keep the police safe.
American police perjure under oath. Such is the reward of a habit of cowardice.
The American concept of qualified immunity permit the police to engage with impunity in murder, torture and rape. This carte blache is a threat to any functioning civil society.
Can you offer any defense, or are you simply unwilling to bear the burden, "to risk life and limb", that you swore an oath to perform?
